Rich brown colour and a light brown head. Aroma is mostly caramel without the green citrus aromas of American hops. A good bitterness that makes this very drinkable, but no distinct notes to make this IPA stand out among the other kiwi greats. Jimthechap (2064) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 13, 2014
I developed a bit of a shine to this beer. Clear rosy amber colour with a cream coloured head with the sparkle of carbonation. There’s a lovely spruce and stewed fruit aroma with green spruce needles. Oddly, it tasted like a shot of coffee at first and then there was caramel, fruit.. and.. and wow. There was a lengthy finish, which was good because I was enjoying every drop. Good bitterness and just a grand pint. It shows that you can pack flavour into a beer without it being outrageously alcoholic.
Nice. More of this please. 3fourths (9357) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 31, 2013
Draft at the brewery in Wellington. Chestnut brown body, faint haze, short off-white head. Medium body full of chewy brown malt, a bit sludgy and thick and syrupy up front before showing it’s leanness in the finish. Bread crusts, toasted grain, caramelized sugar, orange bitters, wood / nuts (Chinook-like), candy apple and maraschino cherry and such. Fizzy carbonation with matching malt coarseness. Pretty average. beer-yum (1866) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 4, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2014 Sampled on release and was definitely impressed. Only the excellence of its competitors prevents it from being a style (low alcohol/full bodied) benchmark. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 3, 2013
The head is good, the body brown. It smells hoppy aromatic, fruity, bit flowery. The taste is a bit malty, more hoparomatic, fruity, bit orange, citrus, very nice! 12/12/12/12/-12/
