On tap at the brewery, 4/12/06: True amber hue. Caramel and toasty character in the aroma and flavor. Well balanced. Not too sugary like many in the style. Cletus (6355) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 17, 2009
Pours copper with a thin white head. Smellds of sweet malt and wildflowers. Tastes earthy and crisp with a peppery splash on the finish. JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - MAY 23, 2005
Dark amber color with a taller light tan head. Toast and grains aromas, akin to a slice of toasted whole grain bread. Hints of mild marmalade and DMS (seems to be part of the grain thing). Dry toasted malt reaches the tongue along with some sorghum and other odd sweetnesses. Some mild earthy peat seems to find its way in the mix. Seems like it would go well with a sausage on a whole wheat bun. But than again, there are a lot of other brews that would fit that bill also. Lots of sweet toasted malt in the linger. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - DEC 22, 2004
Copper brown color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is malt, caramel, cookies and cinnamon. Medium bodied vienna style lager. Malts are fruity and sweet, lots of cookie and cinnamon flavors. Very sweet. Touch of hop bitterness. Interesting beer, not much there but sweetness and spice. Thanks Sean.. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. heemer77 (5358) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - SEP 19, 2005
This is a recent arrival in Iowa City. A darker red body that is almost amber. The aroma is full of apples and some earthy raw potatoes. The taste is light with some tofee and a little bit of celery. There is also a spicy finish of clove. This is a decent lager, but a little to much vegetables in this.

Cloudy amber with a small layer of scum atop the amber goo. Aroma of caramel and pale malt. Taste of caramel with some mild hoppiness. Mild dry finish. Overall pretty bland a joe average beer. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - NOV 26, 2006
In the bottle at the HyVee Oktoberfest beer tasting in Council Bluffs. Clear amber in color with an ivory head. Aroma of cooked vegetables and malt. The flavor is the same boiled vegetables but also has caramel and toasted malts. The tingly palate finish is not smooth. KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - FEB 18, 2006
Bottle from pdee Thanks! Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - AUG 7, 2003
Pours a lush brown/amber tea, with a frothy head and clinging lace, like sea foam. Aroma is a sour peach with blunt hops. Flavor is spicy and bitter, with a bit of pepper and cinammon. Interesting. Palate is suitable. Not a bad beer; not bad at all.
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2004 Thin, light and frothy head above an amber body with yellow and red highlights, in a way. Interesting nose -- sweet and grainy. After the first sip, I found it odd, yet curious and attractive. Texture was very soft and very smooth, with a "tight-bubbled" carbonation. Malts were sugary and sweet -- perhaps too sweet for my blood, but doable. Hops (or whatever else might be in there) were spicy, herbal, perfumey and grassy. Very little bitterness to speak of. I was kind of left hanging in that respect. Balanced and very drinkable. 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 22, 2006
Pours to a deep amber body with a bubbly khaki head. The aroma is toasted malts and soapyness. Muted hops. The flavor is malty, white pepper, deep toastyness, and lightly spicy earthy hops. The palate is spicy, medium light bodied. Decent love-hate kinda beer.
