Poured from 12oz bottle a clear red-gold with a medium sized head of foam that slowly dissipated leaving about a 1" layer that stayed for the entire session.
The smell has a malty nose to it...perhaps some caramel sweetness there.
The taste is malty but not really sweet. There's some roastiness going on with a bit of hoppy bitterness and there's a bit of a nutty flavour there as well and over all, I'd have to say it makes for an off the beaten track tasting Red Ale that hits *my* palate nicely.
Bottom line: I like this Red Ale and I'm going to get some more, no doubt about it.

YUCK. Not sure if I had a bad can or not. I read some other reviews and mine tastes nothing like that.

Bottle picked up locally from notes. Pours a clear reddish amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have lightly toasted bready malts, hints of caramel, herbal and earthy hops, slight off not, equals a pretty average amber. Dal9000 (669) - Ohio, USA - DEC 8, 2015
Pours dark brown red with a minimal head. Immediate almost sweet malty slightly banana bread. Thin mouth feel. Taste fades fast

Aromas and Flavors of spicy hops with a mild earthy sweet ending. Both were somewhat muted though. Golden amber color with a light/medium weight. Good carbonation.

Very nice dark beer with a glow that resembles red wine. Foam is rich, but quickly falls into a continuous layer of about 3-4 mm. It smells of toasted malt and sweet ripe fruit. The taste is spicy something indefinite, but it also carries on a good mellow flavor of roasted malt which to a certain limit tangential it burned. Ripe fruit like plum and peach mixes lively with a great rich flavor of hazelnut and large amounts of caramel malt. The hops I can read as Willamette and it is precisely known as its slightly spicy taste, so I think it’s the aroma of hops which are encountered in the beginning. As amber ale is probably a little too pushy, but since it is an American I might easily expect a little excessive type correctness. 12oz bottle. Filtered copper-burgundy body. Thin, creamy, off-white/beige head. Pretty solid on the malt side, but the hops give it a kind of an odd earthy feel. Drank from a nonic pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle purchased as part of a craft brew pack of eight. Pours a beautiful mahogany, brown color with a bit of beige head. Has a slight roasty aroma with something musty. Has a decent initial flavor that just drops into an off putting complexity, reminds me more of a couple of vienna lagers I’ve drank in my day. Expected more from this amber by FCB.
