abysmally awful berliner weisse, and likely the worst beer had at Avery Sourfest. broccoli stems was suggested and it’s spot on, and combined with a strong vinegar and soured yogurt lactic acid quality it’s downright rank in the nose. low carbonation makes it worse - more flabby and watery in mouthfeel. cooked corn / DMS, lactic acid / spoiled milk, and broccoli. ephemeral8 (69) - denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 2, 2012
Sulfer, pureed broccoli stems, perm solution, and white wine vinegar. From what I’ve heard (which of course, may or may not be true), Berliner Weisse is one of the cheapest and simplest beers to produce. If that’s the case, making a sour Berliner Weisse seems like phoning it in, so definitely not an A for effort. sonnycheeba (5988) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 2, 2012
Tap. Pours slightly hazy yellow with thin, fizzy white head; decent retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is sour fruit, sauerkraut, straw malt, floral notes, and light pine. Flavor is straw and sweet malt forward with supporting sour fruit notes and faint grassy hops; tart, dry finish. Light body, medium carbonation, and low warmth. cubs (10635) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 27, 2012
Tap @ Cranknstein Foco. Hazy, somewhat cloudy light yellow appearance with a white head. Fairly tart, tangy, light lemon, coconut, vanilla, straw aroma. Somewhat tart flavor with notes of sour lemon and vanilla. Overall, it was decent and better than I expected based on the raunchy name.
