Know your brewer: I get inspired. A lot of time its by friends and a lot of other times its by beer. Some conversations, some hops, and a gratitude for what some righteous monks across the mighty Atlantic have been up to for decades. Through that comes this: a classic Trappist yeast playing ball with an aromatic Double IPA. "Tripel-Double." No easy buckets!

Bottle. Poured a clear amber color with an average to largefrothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus and yeast aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and lively carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a very drinkable beer and my expectations where met.

Bomber shared by Butters at the 18th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering. Pours a clear pale amber color with a medium sized frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of spice, herbal hops, faint fruits and pale malts. The taste is bitter hops, stone fruits, earth and a buttery note. Medium bodied.

This recipe just screams that it was thrown together with no thought whatsoever. Sweet, herbal, unbalanced, sucky, 22 oz.... fuck

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2011 Bottle @ home. This series has been pretty intriguing to me but none of then have overly impressed me. This has an incredibly clear, light golden orange appearance with an off white head. The belgian yeast is notable in the nose with an overall floral, herbal, soapy aroma. Soapy, tangy floral, herbal, mineralic, straw, organic flavor. Really having a hard time drinking it.

Bottle, shared with my in-laws. Hazy medium gold body, thick persistent white head. Sweet honeyish malts, vaguely spicy yeast character, peppery bitter finish. Not bad, not great either.

Pour on tap at the brewery is clear yellow with white head, aroma brings notes if fruity pear, apricot and peach, hints of some grass, biscuit notes in there as well. Taste is mostly belgian yeast with the fruity pear and apricot, slight banana, and the spice ever so slightly comes in and mixes with the grassy hops, finishes a bit bitter but also a bit sweet. Again, ABV is hidden, but not much done with the brew.

bottle. filtered clear gold with a white head. moderately musty perfumed yeast-heavy nose with very strong pale-malt sweetness (honey & agave syrup) and herbal / grassy / green hop aromatics. full body with moderate to strong sweetness and syrupiness. mild yeast must and moderate to strong floral / perfume esters. honey biscuit pale malt sweetness is excessive at close to 10% which overpowers the hop flavor and bittering character. dense, syrupy, overly-sweet, strongly ester / must-heavy given the belgian yeast, but out of balance and tending towards goopy. smells and tastes okay at first but cant stand more than a small amount.

12/18/11. 22oz bomber. Surprisingly clear light orange pour with a small off-white head that fades, but lingers in a thick ring fast and laces in small, spotty sheets. The aroma shows butter, hay, funky yeast, lemony citrus, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is funky, malty, sweet, and yeasty, without a ton of bold hop character. I cant say this is amazing, but I didnt think it was nearly as terrible as it rating suggests.
