COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a nod to the big bison that roam our Manitoba plains, Fort Garry Brewing introduces Big Bison ESB --a medium full-bodied English Extra Special Bitter. Brewed with English Maris Otter Pale, 2 row dark crystal malts and English Golding hops, this ESB is expertly crafted to balance the richness of the malts with 45 IBUs of bitterness from 3 hop additions. The result is a wonderfully malty ale with a slight bitter finish.

Bomber from Andrew - thanks! Im not usually an ESB guy but this is solid. Earthy, yes, but some sweet grain and caramel malt as well.

On tap @GarricksHeadPub. Had this awhile back and almost forget how I felt about it. It had a decent English pub quality about it, subtle hopping, good balance but I recall little that distinguished it otherwise.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear, golden yellow with slight amber hue, white head. Sweet bready malt aroma. Flavour has the same sweet bready malt with some mild hops and caramel malt. Pretty good balance. Medium body, medium dryness throughout.

Bottled sample. Clear pale copper in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of floral English hops, orange marmalade, biscuity pale malt, and faint fruity caramels. The malts taste more toasted than they smell, and are backed by some fairly strong earthy/grassy hops, minerals, and a hint of sweet orange. Lighter bodied and more bitter than expected. Perhaps a bit hollow on the palate, but still quite good overall. The best of the Brewmaster Series so far.

The hops add a pleasant bite. Balance of malt and hops is good. Pours with a nice head. Nose is faint but has a citrus, grassy tone. This is a brew that offers a refreshing, bold taste.

Bottle. Light amber body, thick pillowy white head with good retention. Light but pleasant aromas of bread and malt. Nicely bitter flavour, malty, biscuity and lightly hoppy.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Could have used more bitterness, I guess Im starting to prefer IPAs to bitters but I did appreciate the great deal of refreshment this gave me. Tasty, and true to style.

A solid ESB. Pours an attractive dark golden with piles and piles of white fluffy head. Aromas arent much. Pretty malty and bready. Flavors are nice and hoppy... more so than the average ESB. Nice full mouth feel. Very well balanced. Good stuff!
