Spring 2014 edition - I was lucky enough to try this beer before it was ever released and its completely changed since then. The beer when it first came out was a very strongly West Coast styled IPA, but the 2014 edition is a bit more malty with sweet caramel, not as bitter. Portage and Main has notes of pine, a hint of grapefruit, a quite hop-forward IPA, though not quite as bitter & floral as some like Central Citys Red Racer IPA. A bit of a bitterness lingers on the palate, but this is an IPA that I keep buying over and over.

Bottle, 22oz. Lots of microfloaties in this one, amber in color and with a small, dense, light beige head. The aroma is rather piney and resiny with citrus zest and some caramel maltyness. A bit roasted too, both in the aroma and the flavor. Theres a nice bitterness in the flavor, with malty sweetness in the back. Pine cones and resins. Lasting finish. Lacking a bit on complexity this one, but its a fine beer anyway. 141024

Thanks to cards04. This beer poured from the an a hazy brown-orange with a nice foam head. Aroma has a lot more malt than expected. Citrus hops, caramel malt, and a little brown sugar. Medium body with a substantial mouthfeel. Lots of toasted malts compliment the hop bitterness. I like this beer but I wouldnt say its a west coast style with the ample use of toasted and caramel malts. Still, its well balanced and quite tasty.
