Can from Bier Thirty. Pours very dark brown in color, nearly black. Topped with about a finger of creamy brown head. Nose is mild at first, I had to let this warm a bit before diving in, but it opens up to a heavy roast, espresso, smoke, and lightly sweet aroma. Strong taste, quite a bit of licorice, but not overly sweet. Heavy roast presence, even hints of burnt malt. Good smoky notes. Lingering bitters and espresso in the finish. "Like a suped up export style stout. Big roast and chocolate in the aroma and flavor, with hints of dark fruit, licorice, and coffee. This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown color with a one finger off white foamy head that dissipated prettt quickly. Light lacing was soapy around the glass.
The smell had a really nice roasted coffee bean with a light smoky sweet vanilla.
The taste was roasty, smooth creamy vanilla with bitter coffee. It came across really nice.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium to heavy on the body. Sipper- definitely. The carbonation was there and good for the style and for me. But the roasty, smooth vanilla with coffee rolling across my tongue is really nice.
Overall, this was a really good imperial stout, wishing these guys would distribute up here.
