From draft at BeerTemple. Pours a dark hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is very bready and grainy, a bit of funk as well. A ton of caramel, some hops but overal a strange wet grains thing going on with a light sour. Not sure if this is supposed to be like this? Alengrin (5635) - BELGIUM - DEC 29, 2016
Draught at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Brown barleywine from an American craft brewery I never heard of. Lacing, moussy, creamy, pale greyish beige head, thinning quickly in the middle but retaining on the edges; cloudy chestnut brown with coppery hue. Intense but unexpected aroma of oatmeal porridge, fermenting cereals, butter, damp earth, strong rotting medlar, soggy gingerbread, vanilla sugar, marmelade, fresh figs, blue plum, lychee, raisins, brown rum, sweet Brazil cigars, stewed beef, Shropshire cheese. Fig- and mushy banana-like fruit sweetness in the mouth, lots of medlar again, sourish berry touch, even a vague hint of passion fruit (maracuja), but feeling a little bit infected, with slightly drying effect; softish carbo, soft, creamy and ’moelleux’ mouthfeel, fudge-like and caramelly in taste with a soft bitterish toasted edge in the end, some lingering ’meaty’ umami, spicy hop bitter accent, warming rum-like alcohol. Weird yet fascinating, possibly slightly infected with unusual aroma and taste hints, but generally very pleasant, though clearly atypical for the style; feels more like a very strong and ’Americanized’ English brown ale in both flavor and texture. From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Aroma is caramel malt, sweet dried fruits, toffee, touch of raisins, resin, bit syrupy, bit sweaty and funked up. Flavour is fairly sticky sweetness. Draft at Beer Temple. Very hazy amber with an off white head. Aroma has a weird funkiness, a little horsey and off with resinous notes and caramel. Flavour is light heavy sweet and light sour. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation. Surely infected in some way.

On tap @ Beer Temple, sample size glass. Cloudy amber/red color. Off whit e thin head. Aroma’s: malty, umami, maggi herbs. Retronasal it’s astringent resin, sweetness, herbs. Flavor is moderate sweet, moderate to full bitter. Rather strong alcohol feel. Medium to full bodied. Finish moderate bitter. A bit weird at first, but not bad. On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours super hazy murky amber with thin off-white head. Aroma is boozy buttery toffee, hefty syrupy sweetness throughout. Taste is big roasty sweet caramel malt, syrupy but not overly heavy mouthfeel. Rich toasted flavor throughout, sweet and boozy without being cloying, really tasty.
