16 oz can. Dark with a small head of foam. Moderately strong hop aroma. Bitter and a little sweet. Good Black ipa. Alphadelic (2249) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 8, 2014
A big dry hopped nose. Super smooth in texture with a little chocolate and a mid-register bitterness. I think this is an excellent take on the CDA. The texture really stands out to me, as it does on all their beers. Salmoniform (1272) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - JAN 8, 2014
Poured from tallboy to glass. Jet black hue with a thick tan head that lasted. Aroma is huge pine, melon, resin, ripe lime. Mouthfeel is nice with a light body and high carbonation level. Taste is initially slightly sweet with a bitter following and a dry astringent finish. Nice CO2 bite. Overall, this is a decent cascadian dark ale. A bit more roasty than a traditional IPA. mcberko (18557) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 3, 2014
500mL can, pours black with a medium beige head. Nose brings out bold roasted malt, some espresso, and piney hops. Flavour is very dry and bitter, bringing out roasty malt bitterness upfront, followed by piney hops. No residual sweetness at all, with quite a pronounced astringency. Very solid black IPA. Can. Black (obviously) with an unappealing amount of yeast floaters. About a half inch layer at the bottom of my glass. Aroma dominate by pine hops and a little bit of roasty chocolate malt. A little soapy. Flavor is one of the better black IPA’s. Lots of pine and a little citrus. Good amount of chocolate flavors and a hint of smokiness. Smooth.

Serving: from can--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles.
Aroma: moderate, pine hop.
Appearance: huge, rocky, light brown initial head with excellent lacing and mostly diminishing longevity. Cola-colored body.
Taste: lightly sweet initial flavor and moderately bitter, roasty finish with hint of chocolate.
Palate: medium-to-full body, creamy texture and soft carbonation.
Overall: excellent. Great, lasting aroma. Sheets of lacing. Sweet flavor balances the bitterness of the hops. Nice, smooth palate. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 4, 2013
Found this tonight for a pretty price $3/can at Brewforia Meridian... Poured into my HotD goblet produces a thin light brown head atop a brew that is pretty much black... spotty lacing.
Nose is piney/pithy citrus hoppiness with a decent punch of garlic hops... almost no malt battles out from the massive hop profile.
Flavor is a little better with some lite roast/cocoa on the finish that is complimented by a modest background malt sweetness... still the hop flavors/aromas (not necessarily the hop bitterness) are the first violins.
For just a 6.2% beer, this has a surprisingly good body.. decent carbonation..
I like this one, but there is just enough of the garlic/onion hoppiness to make me not like it "as much"... still though.. this is very well done. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Can @ The BeerMongers... Poured dense, blackish with a mild forming, tan head. Mild retention, nice lacing. Good hop character here, citrus with pine and earthy resins along with some charred, toasted grains, and roast. Pretty par for the style. Some light fruity yeast esters to keep things interesting too. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Not a bad black IPA, but more tilts towards mild IPA, with roasted malts in the background for sure. Solid B.
