India pale ale’s were designed to withstand the long voyage to India. Today, it seems one has to design the IPA strong and hoppy enough to make the trip back as well. Vortex IPA is the Fort George’s first foray into this strong beer category. Our IPA is made with generous additions of cascade, Simcoe and Palisade hops throughout the brewing, fermentation and conditioning phases, balanced with heaps of organic pale malt. We designed this to not rip your taste buds off your tongue, but rather vigorously stimulate them and your palate into a lupulin-ecstacy of pleasure. During the cross-country truck trip our brewery made to find it’s home in Astoria, it was nearly scattered to the cornfields of Nebraska by a tornado. We try to capture some of nature’s intensity in every pint. IBU 97

A bitter beer. Darker in color for an IPA. It is a smooth tasting beer, but seems to be lacking in flavor.

Pours into a nonic pint glass liquid gold with sparse evenly spaced bubbles and light head. Aroma is tame for a DIPA, slight pine sap aroma detected. Citrusy hoppy fruit is balanced nicely by the resiny IBU. Remarkably easy gulper, but has a bit of a kick. Great no frills IPA. Cheers Ft George.

1 pint can - it pours a mostly clear orangey amber color with a thick, soapy bubble off white head. Mouthwatering aroma of hops bursting with citrus notes, pine, grass, melon and a hint of eucalyptus. Quite tasty... citrus peel, bitter grassiness, pine resin, cereal malts and lingering bitter finish.

As with a lot of Oregonian things, Fort George's Vortex IPA is firmly rooted in the natural world. This IPA is basically overflowing with outdoorsy hop character. Orange color. It's grassy, piney, floral, resinous, and earthy. The flavor profile is a little more nuanced. There's some citrus and herbal character, but you get a lot more of the aforementioned earth. There's even more tree influence, too. Evergreen, spruce, and eucalyptus. Bitterness is assertive. If you like Pacific Northwestern hops you'll find a hell of lot of them in here.

Tall can from Elizabeth Station shared with wife. Pours a hazy amber with a slightly tan huge head. Aroma is caramel, biscuit malt, some candied citrus notes. Taste is similar with some slight smokey notes and a little bit dirty piney bitterness aftertaste. Not bad.

From tap at The Lovecraft, Portland. Aroma is resinous hops with lots of pine resin, ripe tropical fruits, malt, touch of caramel, grapefruit. Flavour is sweetish and medium bitter. Body is medium. Ripe fruity and resinous with some sweetness, very fine IPA.

Had the beer during the 2016 Kompaan Bloedbroeder festival. The beer looks delicious. It has some typical IPA looks. The color is a light orangy yellow, with a nice cloudiness. On top of the beer a nice little layer of white foam is formed. The bulk collapses quickly, leaving a thin drape. The smell is amazing. It reminds me of Dublin and the Irish IPA’s I’ve had there. Amazing smell. I smell lovely sweet and lightly sour aroma’s of citrus fruits, including grapefruit and lemon zest, and a nice hint of passionfruit. I immediately feel like I’m in Ireland again, because most Irish pale ales have the same fruity hop characters. The hops are lovely, very aromatic and rich and well balanced. They are full of smell, but gentle. The taste is the same. Irish pale ale all over. There is hoppy grapefruit, passion fruit and other citrus fruits. Also some lovely bitter touches of hops and some ginger. Perfect balance. The palate is fine. Nice and smooth. All in all, a very good IPA. Good job. I love it.
