Trappist1 (646) - Diest, - NOV 18, 2013
Dark brown, beige head. Alcohol, some spices, calise, candi sugar, but aslo something unfresh in the nose. Chocolate taste, but alcohol is overdone. Body is sweet, long lasting, alcoholic finish. On average good beer.

Roasted malts, dark fruits, light brown with practically no head, medium body, carbonation is too soft, not very intense, roasted...boring.

LCI. Strange one this, with a herbal/spicy nose, also in the mouth. Flavour is sweet with a bit of sourness. Strange but nice for in the winter.

Bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a lasting light beige foamy head. Aroma is of dark fruits, blackcurrant, figs, raisins, plum, nuts, toffee, hint of chocolate. Taste is of milk chocolate, more dark fruits, plums, blackcurrants, raisins, figs, caramel, bread, banana, biscuit. Oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

33cl bottle at home. Hazy dark brown with a medium off-white head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with subtle bitter tones. Raisin, malts, ripe dark fruits, spices and caramel. Quite OK.

Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. Mid-brown, cloudy and quite flat. Caramel, chocolate, marshmallow, yeasty notes. Some fresh toast and hazelnuts. Simple sweet taste with fudge, more caramel and more yeast. The sweetness goes unchecked until a slight hop bitterness in the finish, but it stays the right side of cloying. Honey, brandy and earthy notes in the aftertaste. Sticky body, and the carbonation stays soft. A little too soft for my liking. Not a bad drop by any definition, but it falls short of the best quads.

simontomlinson (228) - Blackburn, Lancashire, ENGLAND - JAN 6, 2017
Tight creamy beige head stayed well on a finely effervescent near black body. Dark fruit, sweet, malt & brown sugar aroma. Full bodied, creamy, thick, smooth & a slight tingle on the back. Malty, brown sugar, treacle & quite sweet to the fore followed by cloves, dark fruits, berries, marmalade - boozy,

Icedwarf (1512) - Etten-Leur, NETHERLANDS - DEC 30, 2016
Zwart bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is zoet en krachtig met iets van anijs, drop en zoethout. Komt iets te licht over voor een quadrupel.

Traditional and comforting both in appearance and taste, mixes well the expected belgian approach to beer with the ideas and concepts of this young master of brewery. Caramel and chocolate will tickle suddenly your nose as well as your palate, but some secondary notes of licorice and coffee will make the experience more complex and richer.

Kastanjebruin, beige kraag. Soja, mout, karamel, stroop. Iets te zoet. Zacht, vrij vol.
