Fort Pitt Ale is a name linked to the heart of Pittsburgh. Fort Pitt Brewing Company was incorporated in 1906 and ceased operations in 1957. We are proud to resurrect this brand that is indelibly linked to Pittsburgh’s history and identity.

Fort Pitt Ale is crafted with the finest English hops, caramel malt and two-row barley. With its rich brown head and deep red caramel color, it has an appearance and taste worthy of its grand past. Using the identical English hops brought over by the first English settlers at Fort Pitt in 1765, the flavor profile is reminiscent of the first English ale.

12oz can thanks to my beer buddy Cheap!! ThX!! I did not know it was a brown ale until I came to this site. Light flavor for a brown ale, but smooth creamy taste.

Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a hazy orange-brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head. Sly lacing. The aroma had some caramel and toffee malts and some raisin/dark fruitiness. The flavor copied the aroma decently with a mostly sweet aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sesionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, decent brown ale that I could do again.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8449) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 28, 2014
Sampled from a 122 oz can this beer poured a cloudy orange-brown color with a medium sized creamy orange-tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was tangy toasted caramel, raisin and a sour off undertone. The flavor was tangy and malty with toffee, malt syrup, a faint vegetal presence, faint dark fruits and a sour off presence. Medium finish. Medium body. Uninspired.

12 oz can from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Pretty much a clone of Iron City or Duquesne Pilsner with an equal lack of taste or body. Just another local Pittsburgh lightweight.

First Fort Pitt Ale today. Overall- Excellent! Great flavor, aroma and color. Wonderful for my taste! Highly recommended! Good Job to create a fine, flavor full beer!

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2014 From a can, much darker than expected, was thinking a pale lager kinda thing but this is darker than yuengy. Big rocky head too. Taste is certainly ale like, again was expecting a lager tasting thing but this is on par with many craft brws, lacks any macro attributes. Good co2 and it has enough personality without being rude. yes, ther is this medium astringent hop or medicinal thing in there but for the most part a very good beery experience. Can’t wait to taste the lager.
