2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2013 Tap: deep, dark mahogany body with mild clarity & a beige head that quickly settles to a chunky collar. Aroma is very spiced, almost edging on pumpkin spices with a slight, hard-to-identify twang. I don’t know if I could pick out the aroma of squash, so maybe that’s it. Getting more ginger & clove as it warms. Taste includes some lightly tart fruits, even some apple & lemon, along with lighter spices like faint cinnamon, clove, ginger. The finish has a sharp tartness & an undeniable astringency. Doesn’t really suit the flavor profile well, tart & spiced. A little too sharp on the finish, mildly spiced aftertaste. Kind of strange. Not bad, but pretty weird.
Had at Detroit Fall Beer Fest. Pretty sure name of beer was just "Cucurbita"? Dark brown pour. Sour! A bit like their "Great Pumpkin Ale," squash presence adds more to a full, creamy body and richness than actual root flavor. Good, sharp sourness--not too vinegary or funky.
