Cask: black with dark tan head, fades to film rather quickly. Huge maple syrup aroma, with hints of vanilla. Flavor again has a huge maple syrup kick initially. As it warms more vanilla and dark grain start to come through. Very sticky/oily mouthfeel. Overly sweet is the only drawback on this beer. MikeMac (185) - Wyandotte, Michigan, USA - FEB 17, 2006
Poured a flat mirky black I was getting the end of th cask. Aroma was mild with notes of Chocolate, brown surgar and maple syrup. Flavor was Chocolate up front followed by a syrup sweetness that ended a bit sour. Not much malt to balance it out but needed . I guess I would have enjoyed it more if it wasnt the bottom of the barrel. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - FEB 16, 2006
Cask: Lots of maple syrup in the aroma with light vanilla and chocolate. Dark brown, with no transparency and a small tan head that lasts a minute or so. This is a very malty Imperial Stout. Strong maple syrup backbone throughout the beer. Also has a lot of vanilla up front. Finish contains some chocolate and only the slightest hints of coffee and bitterness. As it warms chocolate increases slightly as well as the light bitter coffee presence. Creamy and oily mouthfeel. I like it, but the strong maple syrup is a little too much and starts to wear on me before I can finish the glass. Can’t wait to the regular version in a couple of weeks.
