Wood, vanilla bourbon, maple sugar and suave caramel come together ever-so-elegantly onto this Barrel-Aged Barley Wine’s rising hop resins.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam decorates the translucent amber.
-Alcohol is well concealed (for a 15%, that is).
-This is sweet, as most brews in the sipping category tend to be, but its flavor profile is tight and very engaging.
-I have no idea how this one fares in the bottle, but I can tell you this kegged version at Novare Res was brilliant from appearance to aroma to finish.
On tap at Novare Res.
Bottle courtesy of GatorGuy92. Cheers, Matt! Pours a hazy amber with a white head. Nose is huge grapefruit and pine hops with some malt and some mild spice. Flavor is overwhelmed by the grapefruit hop character like a bully with something to prove. Hops is the name of the game here. Medium in body and lingering boozy hop character into the finish. budznsudz (582) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - AUG 4, 2013
Pours murky orange, with an off-white head. I’ve been sitting on this for close to a year. Aroma is sweet caramel with notes of the maple syrup and booze. Taste is heavy sweet malt, peat, booze soaked fruit, and thick syrup. Really heavy, needs more aging. Bragesnak (5394) - Aarhus, DENMARK - AUG 1, 2013

Nice amber pour, and a few bubbles. Nose is maple, wood, light hops, sticky malts, and chewy. Chewy palate, maple, wood, sticky, hops, light alcohol.

Bottle shared by me, what a generous guy! Pour is dark orange, tons of booze on the aroma. Flavor is boozy malts, really hoppy, sweet and surprisingly easy to drink. A few months on this did it well, based on others reviews of it being hot. Wish I had another bottle to try at a later date. alliance100 (1152) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUL 20, 2013
750ml bottle. Had this fresh 1 week after bottling, REALLY HOT and boozy. Huge barley wine. Think I’m gonna let my bottles mellow out for a few years. gorditoabd (636) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 19, 2013
Bomber shared with Justin at his place in DC. Color and foam appropriate to the style. Aromas also classic of barley wine. Taste is amazing and subdued. Awesome. Really great. Awesome. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 16, 2013
750ml bottle, from Party Source for $21. Shared with DanielCoor. Mildly hazy red orange color, pretty vibrant. Thin, sort of bubbly off-white head. Lots of tiny dots of lace. Really potent nose... Interesting smell, something distinct that is sort of odd. Kind of vegetal, some cooked onions, caramel in the nose. First sip: a lot different from the smell. Pretty hoppy for a barleywine, that’s still alive. Some citrusy hop. Light caramel malt. Some bruised fruit. Light spicy pepperiness. Taste is delicious. It’s moderate sweet, but not cloying. Light bitter. Very impressive taste, for 15%. I was expecting some kind of burn, but no. Drinks like 11%. Bigger body. Smooth, creamy carbonation. Tasty, hoppy, surprisingly easy drinking barleywine.
