COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.

Shared by DrSilverworm, thanks amigo! Beautiful deep orange color producing a half inch of off white head that lingers doe a while. The aroma is malty and difficult to identify. The first taste was delicious with less burn than I anticipated for a 15% beer. I wish I had a better vocabulary to describe this beer as it is very interesting. The alcohol heat comes in the finish. This is a tasty barley wine that was a real treat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750mL bottle, pours a hazy dark golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops, caramel and toffee. Flavour brings out loads of piney hops, toffee, and caramel malts. The hops are still prominent after almost a year, with a big caramel and toffee forefront. The 15% alcohol is amazingly well worked in, without destroying the complexity - the alcohol is definitely apparent, but it’s well-situated. Good stuff, but too hot.

I love the mahogany pour that has a white head that leaves substantial lacing. The aroma is slightly faint w/ some of the bourbon flavors mildly showing up. The taste is sweet, smooth, & finishes boozy. It’s a little harsh on palate in the finish but probably should b expected at 15%. Another very good beer from founders!

Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted sweet malt, caramel/toffee, fruit, & some vanilla; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel/toffee, molasses, spicy hops, fruit, and some bourbon; Warm finish; The alcohol is present but fairly muted; Nicely balanced; Pretty good but not great.

Amber glowing orange & gold. Almost nauseating clove, a bit of cinnamon, and yogurt - in addition to all the expecteds. Tastes like maple-y peat & blended whiskey - carbonated & watered down. The palate is very warming, and hugely satisfying if for that alone. And overall, the story says it all. Cut their locks.

Bottle. Pours clear copper amber with off white head. Nose and taste of bourbon, oak, vanilla, sweet malt, caramel, toffee, sticky resin, maple syrup, sticky orange candy and candied citrus. Full bodied. Finishes with a touch of alcohol, but not as much as expected given the ABV.

Bottle shared at the RateBeer Gallery event in SF. I found this pretty blah, just a hodgepodge of crystal and caramel malt with a muddled and one-dimensional flavor.

From bottle share at Ratebeer Gallery event. Pours amber with a thin beige head and a treacle and alcohol aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with a very boozy character.

Draft @ CBC 2013. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter aroma with hints of caramel. Fruity malty hoppy piney bitter caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter piney caramel finish.

Boozy aroma. Sweet, slick mouthfeel. Almost no carbonation. Very solid barleywine although not as complex as I would have expected given the blend profile.
