Had on tap in GR at their taproom. Pours a clear yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is a hoppy citrus. Some pepper. Some spice on the taste. Not much though. Slight heat. Nice beer.

Sample at the brewery- clear, lighter amber, minimal off white head. Nose is vegetal, some mild earth hops, and not much else. Quite similar flavor profile and no heat to speak of. Kind of a letdown though not bad. Just nondescript

Draft on tap at the brewery (Grand Rapids, MI). Cool series of pepper beers offered, would be neat to try them all. Pours a deep orange amber hue, faint haze with a nice deep orange glow. Frothy whitish head atop stays as a nice film with thicker ring, decent lacing overall. Aromas are a bit of oak, spirit barrel and pale and bready malts. Touches of gentle pepper heat meet wet wood, some coconut, vanilla. Touches of gentle earth, pepper spice, sweeter elements and earthy bitter hops are a bit deadened. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, pale malts, bread and deadened flloral hops meet some melon, wafts of citrus meet firmer oak, touches of vanillin and gentle warmth go racing. Fairly approachable, the middle shows some bready malts with touches of grapefruit rind, lingering oak. A gentle peppery element sparks up, gentle capsacian heat is well integrated, a bit of earthy pepper elements strike with gentle barrel, lingering oak and deadened hop elements. Finish is a bit dry, decent tannic oak and gentle peppery warmth. More citrusy grapefruit hang on with heat, a bit of bitterness. This beer ends up integrating elements well, the heat is mellow overall but firmer oak elements stand up, assert in the smaller Pale base. This isn’t bad, less agressive than the original BA Spite (though I’m not sure I ever rated that) with firmer oak elements overall. Ok. Interesting. On tap in a shifter, nose is vanilla and ripe fruit, cherries, some pepper comes through. Oranges in there too. Very light, low on carbonation, somewhat sweet, really light capsaicin, tonnes of vanilla. Interesting taste good, but a tamed out almost too much.

Draft at Founders - pours a deep gold , big sweet bourbon aroma with shiny of pepper spice . Taste is mostly syrupy bourbon , kind of hides the pepper bite , not bad but won't order a second .

Interesting beer. Copper colored. Aroma mostly.of barrel aging, booze, and pale malts. Taste was three very distinctive phases- barrel and oak in the front, nice smooth pale with light hops as a middle, and slight pepper in the finish. On tap at Church Key. Pours a clear dark golden color with small bubble presence on glass, no lacing. Aroma is initially sweet, but quickly reveals muted pepper notes. The sweet aspects of the aroma are akin to caramel and tropical fruit with notes of pineapple and papaya. Flavor is sweet with mild chile and pepper complexities. The beer offers a certain heat, but it’s overall subtle compared to other "chili" beers I’ve had. The peppers bring more of a bright spicy quality than heat specifically. A mild vegetal aftertaste with citrus notes. Medium carbonation, thin mouthfeel. Definitely worth a try.
