Founders Backstage Series #13: reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA

RATINGS: 613   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.81/5   SEASONAL: Series   IBU: 90   EST. CALORIES: 285   ABV: 9.5%
reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA is a no frills, bold 9.5% ABV India Pale Ale. It pours a pleasing burnt amber with some sweetness due to the Caramalt and roasted barley used in the malt bill. But hops are the true headliner in this elaborate sensory experience. The spicy, piney, tropical complexities of Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops hit you right away with their dank aroma—and they stick around. Take a sip to have your palate simultaneously walloped and caressed in all the right places. Combined, the hops take the beer to 90 IBUs. It’s not just ridiculous. It’s reDANKulous.

8/20 drinking outwith its sellby so i could give it the benefit of the doubt - aggressively bitter, really boozy, very malty, caramel but not that pleasant.

Draft at the black squirrel. Pours dark red with a khaki head. Leave a lot of lacing in the glass. Solid pine and weed notes on the nose and tongue. Hides it’s booze well. Finished clean. Kind of a killian’s Red turned all the way up.

From a bottle. Pours a deep, dark, ruby red and makes a very thick head. Lots of lacing. Aroma fits the name, dank, musty, yeasty and tastes of rich malts and hops. Yum! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Holy Craft, Düsseldorf. Smooth mild beginning. Lots of malt, very dry. Dry red malt, fruity fresh with a dry bitter ending. Nice.

Bottle at home. Pours amber brown with white head. Sweet, malty aroma. Nice mix of malt and hop flavor, with piney hops winning out in the end. Some caramel flavors poke through, as well. Sweet, warming finish. Resiny residual flavors. Powerful beer, quite bitter, especially in the finish.

35 cl bottle @ home. Pours amber with an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, resin, and pine - with a bitter finish.

Amber/dark brown color with huge, creamy (and fairly bitter) beige head. Meium body, soft carbonation, adequate lacing. Earthy aroma of pine, resins, herbs, caramel, hops, toffee, pineapple and tropical fruits. Taste of grapefuit, biscuits, herbs, brown and burnt sugar, malts, pine, barley wine flavors (rye, grains), caramel/toffee and spices. Nice sweet and sticky mouthfeel. Fairly bitter hoppy finish. Great one.

Cerveza color ámbar rojizo transparente. Corona de espuma de buena retención baja carbonatacion de burbujas compactas. Aroma a azúcar, malta, resina y cítrico. Al paladar consistencia semi ligera con notas dices de inicio, frutales a resina y posteriormente el toque a pino que deja un amargor moderado en el retrogusto por un tiempo. Excelente cerveza ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
