Founders Backstage Series #13: reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA

RATINGS: 588   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.81/5   SEASONAL: Series   IBU: 90   EST. CALORIES: 285   ABV: 9.5%
reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA is a no frills, bold 9.5% ABV India Pale Ale. It pours a pleasing burnt amber with some sweetness due to the Caramalt and roasted barley used in the malt bill. But hops are the true headliner in this elaborate sensory experience. The spicy, piney, tropical complexities of Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops hit you right away with their dank aroma—and they stick around. Take a sip to have your palate simultaneously walloped and caressed in all the right places. Combined, the hops take the beer to 90 IBUs. It’s not just ridiculous. It’s reDANKulous.

Draft @ Beavertown Extravaganza'17.

Where: A gift from BF's parents. How: 12 ounce bottle. Poured a beautiful dark red with amber at the bottom and dark brown at the top with nice head that dissipates after a few sips. A little lacing and not a huge smell. A little malty and hoppy but the taste is stronger than the scent. Very interesting flavor with some caramel and citrus under the malty dank taste. A great beer for after dinner. Loving this beer.

Copenhagen 10/9 2017. 35,5 cl bottle from Meny. The obscure name of the beer drawn in what appears to be mold on the label. Pours hazy maroon with a strong red hue and off-white head. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of creamy foam. Massive lacing. Aroma is strong and vinous. Dark fermented fruit and alcohol. Quite heavy and bitter backbone. Soft carbonation and thick oily palate. Flavor is heavy sweet and sugary. Balanced by fairly strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and rather heavy. Quite muscular - even though a bit on the sweet side.

I don't how they do it. Founders just makes awesome beers all the time! Beasutiful red amberish color. Smells of apricot, pineapple , and a light caramel. Starts of softly sweet and then an awesome lingering bitterness that rolls all around. Sweeter and stickier as it warms. Well balance. Well made.

Tap. Super nice deep amber copper color with tan head. Aroma is super dank, toffee, piney, resinous. Taste is the same, with a boozy warming finish. Oily mouthfeel. Very well made.

OG 22, IBU 90
