COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Frangelic Mountain Brown is the quintessential taproom “one-off” beer: Founders’ brewers created the Mountain Brown series for their taproom in Grand Rapids in 2007. Frangelic Mountain Brown is the 16th iteration in the series of popular brown ales—and it likely won’t be the last. The singular characteristic of this beer comes from the use of hazelnut coffees in the brewing process. The beer has distinct aromatics with sweet and nutty flavors beautifully balanced. Founders is known for its beers made with coffee (i.e., the Breakfast Stout series), but this is both the brewery’s first brown ale and its first beer brewed with hazelnut coffees to be bottled. It clocks in at 9% ABV.

(750ml bottle) clear medium brown, soapy tan bubbles. Nose of absolutely rich hazelnut coffee, cream, bits of cream, macadamia nuts. Taste of hazelnut, rich cream, fairly fresh coffee, mild acidity, liking it.

I was not a big fan of this flavoured coffee beer experience. The infused hazelnut wafts aroma, very roasted taste and dry finish. Its all about this flavour and its not really a beer to me, I am OK with many of these coffee beers. Not this time.

Bomber. Brown pour with decent head and lacking on retention. Malty nose with lots of coffee and moderate amounts of hazelnut and other nuts. Taste comes through heavy on flavored coffee. Almost like it was brewed with a flavored coffee creamer but one of the sugar free kind. Not as sweet as I was expecting. Hopeful for better taste but certainly not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Dirty-ass brown color. Stinky nose of coffee and grounds. Sweet, flavor of coffee and nuts. Very thin body. Gross.

Has some really coffee and hazelnut scents. Taste is really sweet and chocolately, a little boozy finish. Almost has a spiked chocolate milk like flavor, decent beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Poured a chestnut brown color with a big pillowy tan head that retained throughout the beer. Aroma was very nutty, hazelnut was very dominant, coffee notes. Flavor was dominated by coffee and nuts. The more you drink the more this beer grows on you. Amazing beer from an amazing company.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2016 Rerate after nearly four years, and this will be much mess amateur-ish. Bottle shared with koleminer20 at the intermission to The Chouffe Party 2016. Aroma is hazelnut, bready, coffee, nutty, just as good as I remembered. Appearance is dark brown, light tan head. Taste is hazelnuts, coffee, bready, nutty, all-around goodness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, light carbonation, lots of hazelnut coffee in the aftertaste. Overall, this is just as great as I remember.

Amber brown with off white head. Aroma is coffee and hazelnut sweetness and nuttiness. Taste follows suit. Clean thin smooth mouth. Wasn't very impressed. Probably one of my least favorite of the typically flawless Founders. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours unclear chestnut amber brown with a nice off white head. The aroma is pours hazelnut syrup sweetness and nuttiness. The flavor of hazelnut syrup as well, earthy and nuttiness, not sweet really at all. This is all on a clean body, not thick but smooth.
