COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.

Bottle pour. Dark copper gold, lasting head, decent lacing. Aroma is a hot mess of hops, booze, crystallized brown sugar malts. Taste is, yep, a hot mess of hops, booze, crystallized brown sugar malts. The hops really seem out of place here with as much residual sugar as this beer has....they seem an afterthought, and not one that I really enjoy. Of all the beers tonight, this is the one that I had the hardest time finishing. Unfortunately, I dont see this one getting much better either.

Amber pour with a tan head. Aroma is caramal malt, hops, and sweetness. Taste is fruity, bold, thick,a nice malt backbone. Sweet from the maple syiup, sesinous hop aftertaste. A little spicy. The 15% alc is well hidden. I am glad I shared my bottle with my brother. A very big and tasty beer.

Bottle sample. Rich dark orange pour, small ring of carbonation and an aroma of strong boozy hops. Flavor is extremely hot & boozy malt, super hopped up and very sweet on the aftertaste. Decent, but hope to be able to try this in a few years again. Way too hot now.

Holy hops Batman! Pours a deep amber / red and whispy white head. Nose is thick and malty. Taste is really hops forward, hops masks the booze a bit, but wow its a beast. It would be hard to drink a full bottle of this, maybe it mellows out in a few years....

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, clear orange pour with thin to no white head, aroma brought notes of maple, some booze, hints of slight celery, maple, some caramel, slight orange, hops, hints of earth. Taste is a mix of sweet maple, booze, some vanilla, oak, hints of spicy and earthy hops, finishing fairly boozy, slightly earthy. Eh.

Big thanks to JPDurden24 for sharing this at the Annual Black Friday tasting, thanks Jon. Also a big thanks goes to the generous AshleySchaefer for trading me some Bolt Cutter in my time of need. I owe you Malcolm. So this big high shouldered 750mL bottle pours with a deep clear copper body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up pretty bold notes tossing up sugar candied pine resin that rolls into more of a citrus sensation of orange flavored hard candy and then a resiny grassiness at the end of the draw. The taste is similar with oddly sugary pine sap and then malt sweetened citrus hoppiness. This has loads of both flavor and bitter resiny hoppiness from front to back. Nice smooth bold rich stuff.

Hazy copper orange pour, thin off white head and very light lacing .... aroma of caramel malts, oranges, boozy, maple syrup and light vanilla .... taste is very bitter and citrusy orange, maple syrup, light dry oak, caramel malts, light vanilla, rindy bitter hops and boozy .... finish is bitter warming and booxy .... definitely a brew to age .... syrupy slick mouthfeel .... complex and tasty, but definitely need to age and try again down the road

Pours a dark brown amber with a little head that quickly dissipates. Nose is of candy peanuts peanut brittle liquory booze. Starts sweet and boost nutty in the middle and sweet coffee bitterness left in the mouth and tongue. Very nice grape fruity hook character balances and hides the 18% very well. Overall very good beer felt lucky when I found it after reading about it. Would drink again imagine it would become magical in time.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear vibrant auburn color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, caramel, citrus hops and a mild nutty note. The taste is toffee, treacle, citrus hops and raisins. Medium bodied and a bit boozy. Nice beer.
