I poured this from a bomber into a snifter. It was golden with three fingers of white head. It had a strong aroma of Bourbon. The taste was strong vanilla with a bourbon backbone. There was mild bitterness but not anything crazy. There was also a ton of sweetness on the back end. Initially I thought it was pretty good, but after a few sips it was a real challenge to finish of the two snifters worth of liquid. Glad I tried it but no thanks next time. Regular Double Trouble is far superior.

I wanted to try this 12.4% Bourbon Barrel-Aged IPA from Founders but Beer Market on Raluten jacked up their prices and so lost my business... Thankfully I turned up a bottle hiding on a lower shelf at CBB, roughly 1200¥... Clear copper with a thick lingering beige head of foam. The aroma truly does combine a fruity sweet thick malty double IPA with vanilla, bourbon and oak from the barrels. I even get toasted coconut from it! The taste follows the aroma with that toasted coconut and oak. Tannic quality melding with citrus and pineapple hop notes to evoke a bit of piña colada. A bit of boozy heat but also vanilla and bourbon in the finish. This is fun stuff. I think you could age it but the hops would drop out and you’d wind up with something barleywine-sequel...

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2017 Interesting aroma of coconut, vanilla, oak and alcohol. The taste also has the interesting coconut flavor. Medium to high sweetness, medium to high bitterness with dru and bitter finish with lots of alcohol flavor. Really interesting and well balanced in spite of the extreme alcohol level.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a murky honey amber color with a small foamy off white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy pine and grapefruit. The flavor was bitter , tangy and sour with pine, grapefruit, cleaning solution and a strong boozy presence. Long hoppy and boozy finish. Full bodied. Disappointing.

LOTs of bourbon, butterscotch, vanilla, oaky, caramel, alcohol, resin, pine. Amber colour, medium creamy white head, lacing. Boozy, heavy alcohol, heavy sweet, Good amount of bourbon and caramel Piney resinous bitterness. Fullbodied, chewy mourhfeel, boozy, sweet and bitter finish. Solid brew, but the burn from the alcohol is a bit too much.

PorterPounder (8068) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 14, 2017
Tallahassee, Fl - Lucky’s Market - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, tight bone colored head that sticks around a while. Aroma is heavy, overly sweet, lots of homebrew-like crystal malt. Flavor is a little too much, kind of hot, not subtle. Maple syrup, cotton candy, just a hint of citrus bitterness. Mouthfeel has a nice chewy thickness to it In my humble opinion, not one of Founder’s finest efforts,

Bottle from Systembolaget. Clear light amber with a medium head. Sweet with warming alcohol, caramel, bourbon, some oak and grapefruit. The mouthfeel was medium and the finish bitter. A heavy one but quite tasty.

Only for people who love bourbon!! But for them, this is a great beer, with a beautiful balance between the IPA and the rich and strong bourbon taste. ---Rated by Belgiandean
