Hazy gold beer. Little white head. A little orange cream on the nose. Softish palate, a little syrupy and dry. Wonderful hops - orange, pineapple and pine which are all wrapped in a honey sweetness. Finishes soft and dry with bitter marmalade flavours and a pinch of black pepper. A marvellous sweet bitter fruity DIPA. Top drawer!

Draft. Hazy golden yellow, small white head, solid lacing. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon. Taste is mostly bourbon, a bit of vanilla, white wine. I don’t fully understand aging IPAs or DIPAs, but there you go.

Koelschtrinker (20223) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 8, 2013
Gut. 12/11/10/10/11/10

750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Nose brings out heavy bourbon notes, wood and some resinous hops. Flavour brings out loads of bourbon notes, some sugary notes / residual sugars, subdued resinous hops, and lots of alcohol. The bourbon barrels are done very well, but completely take out the hops - so it doesn’t seem like a IIPA at all. Fairly sugary and boozy, but it’s all in good proportion. Surprisingly good, but I still don’t see the point of barrel aging an IPA.

Bottle from Andy. Thanks! Orange pour with a white head. Interesting nose. The combination of pine, maple, grapefruit, oak, and bourbon clashes somewhat. Sweet caramel and some alcohol. There’s a nice hoppiness to the flavor. Good grapefruit and pine. Light alcohol, sweet maple syrup, vanilla, bourbon, and oak. A touch of grass and bitterness.

Bottle thanks to Jen. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head. The aroma is floral hop and bourbon. Medium mouthfeel with sweet vanilla and light fruity hop with nice lingering sweet finish. Very impressive.
