Pours a deep ruby with rust around the edges. You can get a slight khaki-beige head with a good swirl, but it settles to a ring. Nose has a lot going on...you get that bourbon barrel up front, full of wood and whiskey. Lots of caramel sweetness, some of that mossy smokiness. Taste is a lot of sweet with a fair amount of bitter and some alcohol bite. Palate is really smooth, coating, slightly thick, and a little sticky, with very low carbonation and nice alcohol warmth going down. The quintessential beer for special occasions, imagined or otherwise. PD4Ever (109) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - MAR 3, 2012
Poured from 12oz bottle into small taster glass.
Aroma: Hard to put my finger on the aroma. A little fruity and a little bit of alcohol. Maybe some vanilla.
Appearance: dark carmel brown and very little head. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Sweet, whiskey, vanilla, and cream soda
Palate: Very creamy. reminds me of a cream soda with a shot of whiskey in it. The alcohol isnt too overpowering though but you can tell its there.
Overall: Very good beer. High alcohol %. Its definitely a sipper. Probably wont have this again but enjoyed it. kevinsenn (2236) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 21, 2012
On tap at Founders brewpub. Hazy brown in a snifter. Earthy aroma of bourbon, alcohol, smoke, and caramel. All that same stuff is in the taste as well. It is high on the sweet side, but it works well here. Love it! burg326 (5488) - Florida, USA - FEB 16, 2012
12 ounce bottle that pours a cloudy amber color, aroma of sweet malt, oak, and booze. Flavors of malt, spicey oak, and a twinge of boozey aftertaste. Was a great night cap that I would want mor of. Ndg2e (36) - Arizona, USA - FEB 11, 2012

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2017 Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours really dark hazy amber with tan finger head that disspates fast. Some lacing, heavy body, sticky texture, low carbonation, and nice sweet aroma. Taste is malty oak, bourbon, hint of alcohol, and a hint of vanilla in the finish. Based on the rating I really expected more. kassner (1668) - Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 22, 2012

11/14 On tap at Stokes, still one of the few barrel aged beers I like DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 21, 2012
12oz bottle, at the Jackie-Os bar. Almost not-clear brown color, minimal tan head, leaving good lace. Big body, crisp light carbonation, smooth, aged texture. Nice sweet taste, but kinda boozy, spicy, dark fruit and a heavier bourbon aroma. Really good, assertive, but not repulsive like a lot of barrel-aged beers I try. Delightful hop bitterness. Awesome looking suspended dark particles, inside. Awesome, strong, but not-too-strong aftertaste. callmemickey (4549) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 21, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 A: Dark brownish red body. Just a coating of off white head. Very little lacing.
S: Bourbon and all that comes with it. Vanilla, oak, alcohol... then comes the beer... dark chocolate and caramel.. not much in the way of hops, but thats ok
D: This is like jack and coke meets beer... its rather nice... the aromas in the nose are well positioned in the taste profile.. nice bourbon finish
M: Smooth. Slightly carbonated. Slightly alcoholic burn too.
O: I don’t know. For as much as I enjoyed the beer I just didn’t want another. I like bourbon aged beers (including KBS/oaked aged yeti/etc) and this is the first one I wasn’t willing and ready to have another.
