UPDATED: NOV 18, 2015 Rereate again: 4,2 On draft in Illinois. Lots of wood and vanilla. Good mouthfeel. Rerate draft: 3.9 Very thin head. Palate is not thick enough. Disappointing on palate. Overall I would reach for an oskar blues. 4.0 Nice Carmel malt aroma. Appearance is thin. Head falls away. Nice carmel oak bourbon aroma. Nice and sweet, with a hint of vanilla and Carmel and bourbon, very complex very nice. Just maybe a tad to sweet, but if you are ready for Carmel charm greatness... imagine a carmel sunday with bourbon... top notch.

A bit too sweet for my taste. But, after reading that the beer is a "sipping beer", i can see where some would like it. Tastes a bit too much like the yucky hard candy my grandmother (born 1902) used to keep in her candy dish). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 On draft it poured a very dark amber with a mild tan head. Aroma was of vanilla, coconuts and barrels. On the palate I was overwhelmed with smokey sweetness and vanilla followed by burnt caramel. Mouthfeel was a nice smooth medium feel with low carbonation. Good beer but expected much more.

Bottle thanks to phatdog1. Poured an unfiltered dark brown color with a thin thin cream colored top. Aroma of straight bourbon. Front loaded boozy taste of whiskey, followed by notes of caramel, spice, vanilla, cherry, & roasty malts. Medium body, highly carbonated.

Great beer. Delicious full flavored beer. This beer has a robust presentation that develops in flavor as you savor it.

So I got THE LAST 4 OUNCEs outta the tap at Somerset Hills Tap Room. If this was "the dregs" from bottom of the tap, I can only imagine how intense the fresh keg must have been. Beautiful deep amber color, malty scotchy aroma. Really really complex malt profile, just enough hops to balance it out. Description from the brewery is all true, you can taste the oaky bourbon barrel complexity, roasted malts, cherries. If this "sounds good" to you, just buy it if you are lucky enough to find it. Maybe not for everyone, but very accessible for anyone who is attracted by the description. Frikkin awesome.

All the hoppy bite of the regular bastard are mellowed out by the vanilla sweetness from the oaky aging. Very sweet and malty with an alcohol/syrupy finish. Very good.

8oz Draught from Taproom. Appearance is dark, caramel brown color with little to no head. Aroma is sugary sweet, bourbon, vanilla, and wood. Taste is caramel malty, scotch alcohol, vanilla, and oak. Amazingly balance with just enough booze flavors not to be overpowering. Palate is full-bodied, ultra smooth texture, fine balance, little carbonation, and a long finish. Truly one of the great American beers out there.
