4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Complex aroma of vanilla, bourbon, caramel and figs. The taste is similar. Sweet and soft finish. Great beer!
Aroma - bourbon, oak, caramelized sugar, fig or raisin, honey and spice.
Appearance - the body is black and the head is beige. The head is originally very large 2+" and settles slowly. Good lacing.
Taste - has rich caramel malt. The malt is complex. Their is a mix of carmalized sugars, raisins, oak, alcohol, bourbon, sweet biscuit, honey, sassafras. Not too much in the way of hops. Well balanced. Not too sweet.
Palate - the body is full, texture is slick, carbonation is average to lively, the finish is rich and boozy and a little sweet. Length is moderate in length. strowlands8 (278) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 20, 2018
Bottle about 3 years old. Caramel, dates, super sweet coffee. Smells great. Taste is the same a little too sweet. Little bit burnt/smoke flavour. Basically no carb. Really solid old/scotch ale/barley wine. ptitlouis57 (10) - - JAN 19, 2018

Pretty good beer for a cold winter’s night. Would not have wanted more than one though.

Pours deep ruby red with a big frothy head, rather good retention. Looks gorgeous. Aroma is already amazing, rich and complex, a lot of sweetness, malt and caramel. Don't think I've ever smelt more bourbon in a beer than with this one, very intense, yet really nice. Very fruity and loads of vanilla. Big body, smooth mouthfeel. Flavour is just as rich and complex as aroma suggests. Very malty and sweet, immense amounts of caramel but adequate for a scotch ale. Again fruity and loads of vanilla, bourbon dominates this beer in a very pleasant way. Finishes long and sweet. Wow, a lot of depth and really delicious. Definitely one of the best scotch ale I've had. Just brilliant. julesxxl (134) - Cholet, FRANCE - JAN 8, 2018

From bottle. Caramel, earthy, butterscotch, black, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, smooth finish. CurlyJoe (385) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 7, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2018 Clear medium brown, thick, creamy, persistent off white head. Sweet caramel, vanilla aroma. Heaps of caramel/toffee. Very sweet taste, once again lots of caramel and vanilla. Tinge of bitter, and even sour, but sweetness wins out. Scotch taste isn't too strong, as scotch ales often can be. Has obviously mellowed in the barrel. Really, really tasty, and easy to drink. Although sweetness would get a bit much after a few (that and the ABV, which is hidden!). A real treat of a beer.
