On tap at the brewpub on 4/28/06: Nearly opaque dark brown pour has a thin-lacing, wispy tan head. Slightly tart dark caramel malty nose. Body starts tart and sweet with some toasty dark caramel maltiness and a touch of bready yeast. Decent balance, but the light tartness isn’t very true to style. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - MAY 6, 2006
Draft @ Founders: Slightly hazed dark brown color with a beige head. Sweet roasted malt with ash notes. Roasted malt flavor that was sweet with some fruity notes. Light to medium bodied. Terminus (3702) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 24, 2006
tap at the brewpub-deep brown with a fuzzy kack-head. banana and chocolate nose with touches of dusty esters, lots of yeast twang and some chocolate in there as well. body is medium with lighter than expected carbonation since its a weizen. finish has notes of chocolate, with a touch of bananas. the chocolate goes on for a long time in the finish. I dig it and its pretty under-rated if you ask me.

Pours a jet black color with a ring of light brown lace. Aroma of black wheat. The flavor has some black wheat and chocolate, it has a decent roasty side to it. The body is light with an oily and dry texture and moderate carbonation. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - MAY 3, 2006
On tap at Founders. Deep murky black-brown body, medium off-white head. Lightly toasty chocolatey aroma. Rather thin, light body with toast, chocolate, and a light bite on the tongue. A touch grassy but little wheat character on the whole. An underwhelming beer with very little flavor and complexity. ryan (3186) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - JUN 6, 2006
Draft at Founders. Dark brown body with tan head. The aroma is chocolate, roast and light fruit. The flavor is chocolate and bananas, fairly dry. Light body with lively carbonation. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 3, 2006
mediocre at best....a clearish black appearance with medium head...aroma and flavor are one of the same...some roasted malts, a touch of their harvest hops, and a bit of rye...watered down flavor....okay palate Zeswaft (1775) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 30, 2006
I enjoyed this. Tap at brewery. Poured dark brown/black with a dark tan head. It could have been a little more densely flavored. Not much aroma, a little chocolate malt maybe. Body was little. Lots of chocolate flavor and a little banana. A better than average dunkleweizen.
