Look: pours a beautiful raspberry red, little bit of a white head Smells- fresh crushed raspberry, little medicinal character Taste- a little too much "cough medicine" quality for my taste. warm alcohol flavor. Feel- nice carbonation Overall- a little too sweet and cough syrupy for me

Gaultier (1914) - SWEDEN - AUG 8, 2015
Beer tasting @ fillepolo 8/8-15. Bottle from Systembolaget. Fruity with a lot of raspberries, also sweet. Body is medium, the finish is fruity and sweet with raspberries.

Pour out of bottle, slightly hazy reddish pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of big raspberry, raspberry jam, some lemon, hints of fruity notes into a bit of red fruits. Taste was a mix of big jam, raspberry, sweet fruity notes, some slight fruit, finishing fairly sweet. I personally like the backstage version better.

This one has been revised for 2015. Pours brownish red with a fairly thick buff head. Malty aroma has a firm overtone of raspberry. Flavor is mainly sweetish and slightly sour raspberry, with malty and subtle hoppy undertones. Mouthfeel is firm, smooth and lively. Don’t blush, order one.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2015 750ml bottle (from notes; thanks PVA!) poured into a St. Bernardus snifter. Appearance: Pour is a deep cranberry/garnet color. It starts with a small, mixed-density pink head that fades relatively quickly to a thin partial coat Very dark but clear. Smell: Tons of ripe raspberries, with some vague sweet fruitiness, rather noticeable alcohol (after warming), and a bit of funky Belgian yeast. Taste: Like the aroma there’s a strong flavor of ripe raspberries with some vague sweet fruitiness. Unlike the aroma, the yeastiness is quie subtle and there’s a nice. light tartness. Only a touch of alcohol that is well masked by the berries. Mouthfeel: Body is medium-full and slightly sticky and syrupy; Light carbonation provides light tingle; enough tartness to feel; pleasant warmth from the acidity and ABV. Overall: World class for style. Great raspberry flavor with enough tartness and complexity to keep it inviting ... even at 750 ml.

22oz bottle - The word that comes to mind after enjoying a bottle of this with my brother is simply put....stunning. This belongs to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the world’s greatest framboise’s and fruit beers, because of the fruit forward nature that Founder’s has captured in this bottle. A stunning, raspberry-heavy aroma with some light Granny Smith apple showing up. Flavor squarely punches you in the tastebuds with a stunning array of jammy raspberries, some seed astringency, Granny-Smith like tartness which really accentuates the sweetness and just an all-around fantastic combo of flavors. It really resonated with me and quite happy I had the chance to enjoy.

Bomber. I kept this one sitting around not so much in an attempt to age it as simply because I’m never in the mood to drink 22oz of 13% sweet fruit juice by myself. But Chris is here tonight and that’s more than enough excuse to finally crack this one.

Pours a brown tinged red with a pink head. Huge raspberry juice nose, even a bit of kool-aid powder. Initially very sweet, tons of fruit of course, much like juice, but through the middle there’s a nice dark toffee that doesn’t come anywhere near the old KRE but might admit to aspirations of such. The close becomes more tart, like a really good pie, and that improves a great deal. Raspberries dominate the very long finish. Age doesn’t seem to have hurt this one bit (and certainly has covered up the 13% admirably; it’s thick and rich and intense but not at all hot).

All in all a pretty decent fruit beer -- it has certainly grown on me over the course of a glass and a half. But 22 oz is too much for a sitting; definitely one to share a few ways.

tl;dr summary: NG Raspberry Tart on roids.

Prufrockstar (2132) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - OCT 9, 2014
Bottle, thanks to Carl. Pours viscous clear ruby; ring of bubbles, spotty lacing; can I say this has nice legs? Yeah, I’m saying it. Aroma is basically New Glarus Raspberry Tart; cherry/berry pie filling, alcohol, no real hint of its age. Sweet and syrupy on the tongue, but before it becomes cloying it draws back with a cranberry juice-like tartness. Playing in between these two is toffee, maybe a hint of tootsie roll, some light floral notes (or at least the impression of flowers). Impressively shows no sign of age. Full body, sticky and mouth-coating the way the inside of a fruit pie can be; soft but appropriate carbonation. Overall: boozy fruit juice that plays right into my sweet tooth. Nice one to sip and share.

crossovert (14233) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 7, 2014
Realizing that the non backstage version is now rateable as a different beer. When I had it I couldn’t tell you the vintage but I preferred the freshness of the newer version on draft. This had much more oxidation and stale raspberry sweetness going on.
