tap during the black party, 2011, at founders. black with minimal beige head. aroma of buttery dessert and bourbon. wonderful, roasted malt with butterscotch. extremely smooth mouth feel with bourbon undertones. alcohol and burnt sugar isnt as obvious as it was in the maple version, even tho it is still there..mostly one dimensional, but still good Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - MAY 9, 2011
On tap at Founders last Friday. Served in a snifter.
The pour yields a very dark-colored brew with a thin mocha head and a few legs on the side of the glass. Whoa, the bourbon in the nose is pretty strong. It eventually yields way to a good nose full of bourbon, oak, light vanilla, and more bourbon. Behind that is a bit of roasted malt plus a bit of pine hops. Pretty thorough hop presence, though it’s for sure in the background. Flavor is filled with bourbon plus a nice oak and vanilla character. Really quite complex. Roasted and sweet malt in the background. Medium body with a full feel. Really just a great beer. The best beer I’ve had in a long time; good thing it was soon to be passed by Syrup Del Noche.
