The coffee lover’s consummate beer. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates and two types of coffee, this stout has an intense fresh-roasted java nose topped with a frothy, cinnamon-colored head that goes forever.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2012 Re-rate on fresh bottle. Lots of chocolate and coffee, thick body, no lactic flavor or aroma. Great!

12 oz bottle from beernbourbon. Pours dark brown/black with a huge foamy tan head that leaves some spotty lacing, this one was definitely under pressure. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malt and a bit of acidic lactic scent. Flavor is dark rich bittersweet chocolate, coffee and a sharp lactic aftertaste. Full body with active carbonation and a super long finish. Not sure if this was a slightly funky bottle or what, will have to eventually re-rate another bottle. Thanks again Vince.

Wow... What a complex and interesting brew. Strong coffe and chocolate aroma... Sweet, malty and toasty. Taste to match... Mocha. Drink cold... Alcohol is well hidden -really 8.3? As it warms, takes on more of a kahlua and boozy taste, but if consumed at appropriate temp this is a wonderful delicious and complex coffee and chocolate flavored beer.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2016 Bottled from Systembolaget Pitch black with a large, beige head. Chocolatey and burnt peaty aroma with some coffee as well. Thick and oily palate. Very roasted; licorice, tar and salmiak. Medium bitterness. A bit sweetich with a dry cocoa-feel.

Bottle. Black body with a long lasting creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, smoke. Flavor is bitter chocolate, coffee, oatmeal, roasted malt, notes of hops. Smoky notes. It has a very long lasting aftertaste of bitter coffee. Alcohol is well hidden. Nice lacings. Thick mouthful. A lovely and cheap beer.

Overall, a very nice breakfast stout. Coffee dominates the aroma, but the flavor is more cocao and roasty. Color is black with a tan head. I think KBS ends up being a little bit better balanced than the bs.

Poured from the bottle. Pitch black with a caramel head. Smells like a great espresso, with a little bit of oatmeal in there. Great creamy mouthfeel. Tastes is strong of very bitter coffee and oatmeal. The booze is pretty well hidden. This is one tasty stout

A superlative beer. Rich aroma of coffee, bitter chocolate, and alcohol. The flavor is rich and smooth with a nice, subtle cocoa aftertaste. This is a lovely, dark beer that would be perfect with a slice or rich cheesecake after dinner.

KyotoLefty (10264) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAY 4, 2010
Fresh bottle. Had side by side with Bell’s Expedition. No head. Strong, fragrant coffee and chocolate aroma. Nicely roasty, smooth, sweet, creamy cafe au lait. Slightly vegetal factor as well, like beans. Big coffee flavor with chocolate and a sour edge. The burnt coffee flavor dominates from start to finish and actually gets a bit irritating. Lacks complexity. Light, almost thin body. Good but too much coffee and trounced by the Bells.

37,5 cc bottle. Pours deep black with a nice dark brown head. Tons of coffee and chocolate both in the aroma and in the flavor. GREAT BEER!!!
