Deep brown, near black pour with caramel glow, small head which instantly dissipates. Earthy, chocolate, roasted coffee beans and smokey wheat aroma. Rich body with bready, slightly yeasty flavour with hints of smoke and chocolate.

Breakfast Stout is about what it sounds like-- breakfast in a bottle. Very strong notes of coffee emerge when you eat..er...drink, this sweet, yet powerful stout.

Pours a thick, dark, oily black with minimal head. Robust coffee and chocolate flavors and aroma. Very smooth feel and finish. A very nice coffee-stout.

Bottle via the Bonster. A solid and robust stout thru and thru. Body is full, as expected and is centered upon a hefty dose of coffee and black patent malts. A certain chewiness also appears thru the thick haze of oats and malt. Very nice.

A - Black as sin and thick as hell. Beautiful. Just a smattering of head that fades almost instantly. Could use a larger head but its hard to complain. S - Rich malt, coffee and hints of chocolate. I was really hoping for a little more out of this. T - Mostly coffee with the oatmeal coming in second. The chocolate melds in there well and it has a slight bitter finish. Just a touch of alcohol. M - Thick and chewy just like I love it. D - Its a bit rich but the flavor makes you want to keep going.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2010 12oz bottle, bottled Dec 2009. Pours a very dark brown/black with a two finger brown head. Holds a good cap with rings of sticky lacing. Aroma is gourmet coffee beans, chocolate milk, and dark roasted malts. Flavor is very chocolaty, a good dose of coffee, chocolate milk is there again on the finish, also a touch of acidity toward the bottom of the glass. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy thanks to the oats, a little thin compared to the competition, with medium carbonation.

This drinks almost like chocolate milk with a coffee kick, the lighter body helps in this department. Dangerously drinkable. A very, very nice coffee oatmeal stout, gets a slight bump due to being the best bargain in the category. There are a few that are better, but cost twice as much or more. Founders Breakfast Stout is one Ill keep coming back to.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Wine and Beer Westpark, 1/18/10

Aroma: Lots of roasted coffee, some sweet notes, chocolate, pepper, vanilla, and some smoke
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown color with a creamy brown head
Flavor: Mild sweetness up-front with a bitter coffee tingle lingering on the tongue
Palate: Medium-full body with a thick feel, and a somewhat long duration
Overall Impression: Id been holding on to this one for a couple of months, but hey, tonight is as good a night as any. As I watch the beginning of another season of 24, Ill toast this beer to Jack Bauer! This is a very nice stout especially for all the coffee lovers out there. It reminds me a little bit of Dieu du Ciel Pch Mortel, which I also like. A very nice beer.

An incredible looking beer. Pours your typical stout body with a good inch of a thick brown head. Smells strongly of mocha, vanilla, and oats. Great lacing. Smooth and rich. A slightly astringent mouthfeel akin to a cold coffee. Sweetly malted. A great beer.

Pours black with a small/mediuim thick, light brown head that lingers. Smells of milk chocolate, graham crackers, and some coffee. Mouthfeel starts creamy/full and tapers to a medium body with carbonation. Definite coffee and dark chocolate bitterness with some sweetness. Overall an enjoyable, heavy stout. A good substitute for a sandwich.
