Fluffy foamy peaty head w/ opaque motor oil pour, thick nutty roasted aroma tinged with sweetness, smooth round mouthfeel, heavy roasted flavor w/ slight notes of chocolate hogan873 (451) - Joliet, Illinois, USA - NOV 20, 2009
Pitch black body with a very thin brown head. Absolutely beautiful. Dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans dominate the inviting aroma. Imagine walking into an upscale coffee shop. Surprisingly smooth and silky, like a glass of milk. A coffee lover’s dream. Starts sweet as if you were drinking an iced mocha. Chocolate, coffee and cream. Finishes appropriately bitter. A shot of espresso. A wonderful beer that is remarkably easy to drink, especially considering the ABV. timbeer (69) - Rosemount, Minnesota, USA - NOV 18, 2009
[bottle] Deep brown color with little head but has lacing that holds on well. Roasted malt chocolate nose, smooth over the tongue and a good balanced of coffee, chocolate and malt. A good after dinner drink coldmeat23 (232) - Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - NOV 18, 2009
Black. Totally black. Slight touch of dark crimson at the extreme edges, when backlit. No head to speak of, just a slight filmy covering of loose, tiny bubbles. Lacing is actually okay, despite the lack of a head.
Fresh ground, fresh roasted, dark coffee beans. Nice notes of dark chocolate. Deep, dark roasted maltiness. Hints of vanilla sweetness.
Sweet maltiness out front. Dark chocolate in the middle. Finishes with the taste of ground coffee beans. Slight sweetness of vanilla and maple syrup.
If you don’t like black coffee, stay away.
Mouthfeel is sufficiently thick and almost oily. Not quite as ’big’ as I was expecting, though. Not quite creamy enough, for me.
Taste wise, this is totally drinkable. The body is a minor letdown, as I’d gladly drink many more of these.
The very well-hidden 8.3%ABV will sneak up on you, though.

Pours black, with a small light brown head. The aroma is smokey, grains and a touch of pepper. The taste is dry, smokey, bitter. I’m thinking some aging will help bring out some more flavors.

Pours an opaque black. Aggressive pour leaves a thin head that stays for a bit. Head is dark tan that laces nicely. Aroma is all coffee. A little yeasty and maybe a hint of sweet caramel. At first sip, get a hint of cocoa before the coffee pops you in the face. Strong coffee bitterness at the tail end. Amazing mouth feel. Thick, rich and creamy. Completely coats the mouth. Lightly carbonated to make a silky smooth palate. The coffee is a little over powering. I would have liked this to be a little more complex, but it’s still excellent! wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - NOV 16, 2009

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2010 On-tap @ The Rotten Apple in Grafton, IL.
Poured into a pint glass.
A - Black with a cream-colored head which vanishes leaving some lacing along the sides of the glass.
S - Lots of dark chocolate, coffee/expresso, oats, nuts. Really melds together well and is very pleasing.
T - Like dessert. Chocolate, coffee, expresso, roasted nuts, oatmeal, creamy sweetness.
M - Nice and rich. Medium-full in body. Little to no carbonation.
D - This is a great stout that I really love. A must-try! Lyncham (251) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 15, 2009
The beer is heavy with flavors of coffee, oat flakes, and cinnamon. The head is a reddish brown color. The hops bitterness and coffee bitterness blend and balance very well. The nose of the beer is the "best part of waking up...with a breakfast stout in your cup!" rpm56 (13) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 15, 2009
Wow, had this on draft at the Blue Monkey Tavern, I’m not a coffee drinker but this stout is truly amazing. A nose of deep, dark roasted coffee, an unctuous mouthfeel and lingering finish. A keeper.
