The coffee lovers consummate beer. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates and two types of coffee, this stout has an intense fresh-roasted java nose topped with a frothy, cinnamon-colored head that goes forever.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2015 Bottled Oct/2012. Poured into a snifter. A: Looks pretty solid. Super dark brown. Little head... but I had a lousy pour and plus its a snifter so... S: This is what a coffee beer should smell like... and oddly enough its coffee. Like a french roast this one: little acidity, a hint of chocolate, roasty. Very smooth. Nice. T: Bit chocolate note. Bitter throughout which is great for an imperial stout which sometimes have a lot of acidiy. Good balance. Coffee notes. Goes down pretty smooth. Finish is a bit more unbalanced that the flavors. P: As mentioned above: no acidity which is what Im looking for in an Imp. stout. Medium/full body. Overall a great beer. Drinks like a limited release, but is widely available for about half the year and I love that! Great balance, great flavors. Much better than the average imperial stout. 3 year vert Current smells more balanced. More chocolate. Coffee acidity becomes more apparent with age. 13 is softer and 12 is softer still. Vanilla notes. More in the 12. Boozier the older. Still smooth. Whiskey notes... Oak. 13 is maybe the most boring. Little chocolate. And more complex vanilla and oak flavors not as apparent. 14 is the most bitter. Bigger bolder flavors there. Well this was fun! Carmel notes in the 12. In all 12 was more whiskey like... Extremely complex and 14 was more beer like. 13 was not working well... Too much acidity in the nose. I think the 12 is the winner. Yes no doubt. Wife drank my 2012! Oh well 2013 which was two years ago. Uhhhh. Tons of coffee and chocolate taste is worse. Do not age.

Dark, rich, doesnt have much carbonation. Scent of coffee and cocoa squeezes out of the bottle once its open. Notes of coffee, cocoa, caramel an oat in a great balance. Having less carbonation makes the taste more gentle and consistent. Mildly and pleasantly bitter. Hop wise, its still somewhat hoppy with a small hint of citrus note. But given that its a breakfast stout, should focus more on other taste instead of its "fruity" hoppiness. A GRRRRRREAT breakfast stout, strongly recommended. 好喝!

Pitch black body, big beige head. Incredible intense aroma full of roasted coffee, honey, a hint of strawberry and chocolate. Medium body with ideal carbonation. Great flavour with bitter chocolate, praline, coffee and indeed a hint of strawberry.

Bouteille.

On tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki, Greece. Pours black, really dark color, with a thick creamy brown, beige head. Aroma full of Roasted coffee. Taste is bitter light, full of coffee, dark roasted malts, some chocolate when it gets warmer. Perfect silky mouthful, medium to full body, easy drinkable with a dry coffee bitter aftertaste. Perfect breakfast stout.

Bottle. Just tasted this one back-to-back with North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. Founders has a more effervescent head and aroma. Similar strong sweet coffee aroma and flavor, but less boozy with 8.3% ABV. Definite vegetal/grassy undertones. Clean finish. Sweeter, not as bitter, and lighter blend of coffee than the Old Rasputin. Its like choosing between coffee brews: Founders is a lighter brew, Old Rasputin is a darker brew. I prefer the Old Rasputin.
