Bottle, pours hazy orange-amber with thick, fizzy head that never completely goes away. Nose is massively hoppy, but the caramel malt presence levels it out nicely. Same with the taste: hop explosion on the tongue, with orange, clementine, some peach and slight pine rounding things out. Very crisp mouthfeel, very slight tingle-burn in the finish. Does nothing to hide the ABV, and I like that! Reminds me of a more bitter Two Hearted Ale. Very nice.

Very impressed with this one. Medium head with tons of lacing. Lots of little bubbles and an amber color. Aroma is floral with the malt hiding in the background. Medium body, slightly oily with a bitter finish that lingers, but not too long. Taste is is a mixture of sweetness and bitterness in balance. I prefer a lighter bodied IPA, but this isnt bad at all.

A: The beer pours a light amber/dark orange color with a frothy off-white head and nice lacing. S: Citrus hops with a strong woody, piney character. Some lightly sweet and bready malts. A little bit of grass in there, too. Most of the citrus is grapefruit, which becomes more pronounced as the beer warms. T: Big time bitterness from the grapefruit peel and pine hop notes. A lot of toasted bread malt flavor in the background, which I found sort of surprising. M: Medium in body with a medium carbonation and a lingering bitterness. O: Good, but not as good as some of the other Founders IPAs that Ive had (namely Double Trouble and Harvest Ale).

Sample at a tasting at IlliniSmittys house, poured through a home-made randall. Aroma was sweet citrus, flavor was light, bitter, flowery (hibiscus). Nice and really pleasant.

Bottle at home. Aroma: floral, not overpowering, sweet. Appearance: deep gold, medium head. Taste: malt, sweet, citrus, bitter in the finish but well balanced. Palate: average carbonation, medium bodied, long slightly bitter finish. Overall: very enjoyable, probably the best IPA Ive tasted so far, not overly bitter or complex, highly recommend.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2014 Re-rated after several more cans, after a free for all against Ska Modus Hoperandi IPA and Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. This one is very nice. Grapefruit, resin, mango, ripe tropical fruit, citrus, hops and caramel in the aroma. Taste is very rich yet balanced, you get fruit and caramel sweet notes up against pine and resin bitter, then a mellow balanced finish. It pours cloudy orange amber with low white head. Body is light and smooth with soft carbonation. This is a very, very drinkable IPA. Maybe not quite up there with the best (Sculpin, AleSmith IPA, Racer 5 etc) but still very good.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2013 Sampled from bottle at CBC 2013. Clear, a bit rusty orange color, small to medium sized off-white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma of malts, grapefruit and hops. Taste lightly malts, hops, a lovely (grape)fruityness, tropical fruits and nicely bitter. Very nice beer indeed. (Re-rate, original rating was an early amateur rating from 6/15/2011)

Strong hoppy nose and taste without the bitterness of many IPAs. This was a short 6 oz (maybe) pour at Fork in Lincoln Square....floral but not bitter.

good hoppy/malty aroma. typical filtered IPA pour. nice piney/citrus hops come through from start to finish. moderate bitterness. malts come through in the nose as well. great IPA, just what a hophead needs.
