COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editors Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Pours a deep amber color, with thin white head. Aroma is molasses, a bit of spiciness. Notes of caramel, sweet molasses, vanilla, slight alcohol burn. Oaky finish. Has a rather light body, light carbonation. I am enjoying this at the moment but I think it will be better with some age.

Bottle - aroma is quite sweet. It pours a lovely amber colour with a small white head. Taste is sweet and bitter. Strangely the combination is well balanced, and very drinkable. High alcohol is quite well hidden, just a slight warmth in the belly, and the finish is medium bitter. For me to say its drinkable with my aversion to bitter beers, it says a lot. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Damin. Not an everyday beer for sure. Dark amber color with head copying color of body. Sweet, is it bourbon? aroma, persisting through whole experience. Taste is again sweet, malty and again very sweet, is this the bourbon? Im certainly not fan of bourbons but I would give this happily another try. Nice.

Bottle. Sensoric. Brown, medium hazy with small, dirty white head. Poor head retantion and lacing. Aroma is heavily malty - mainly caramel, roasted, lightly hoppy with moderate spicy character, riped, tangy dark fruits, barrel notes are moderately noticeable. In second or third raw some kind of peaty character. Taste is nearly heavy sweet and moderately bitter - stable, long. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, finish is malty, spicy, densed. Summary: Nice brew. Rich in malts, spicy character empowered by some moderate hoppiness. Podsumowanie: Słodkie, przyprawowe, owocowe, sporo karmelu, melasy, pikantnych, suszonych owocw. Bez nadmiernej ulepkowatości. Beczka fajnie wyczuwalna, bez szału, ale nieźle komponuje się z całością. W tle trochę jakby klimaty lekko wędzone, co przypomina trochę scotch ale.

Bottle from Total Wine & More, St Petersburg. Toffee brown with a hint of amber, slightly cloudy. A little bit of filmy white head on top. Salted caramel, candied orange peel, hazelnuts, thick honey, and some muted resin in the nose. Sweet, sweet, sweet. Should be cloying but it isnt. Long finish with hop bitterness bringing up the rear. Warm buttered toast with cinnamon sugar, brandy, stone fruit and a hint of smoke in the aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel. Really good stuff.
