4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
From 12oz bottle which was bottled on 2/15/13. This "version" was "Brewed with Molasses and Oak Aged." It pours a deep, slightly cloudy reddish amber color with a very thin tan head which rapidly dissipates to a thin ring. No noticeable lacing. Low to medium carbonation and the head is comprised of very dense bubbles. Mouthfeel is slick and slightly creamy. Very nice. The aroma a sumptuous portent of the awesome taste which is to follow. Primarily the nose follows the taste except there is no detectible hop aroma. Taste is moderately sweet without being cloying. Flavors of carmel, dark bread, molasses, figs, vanilla bean, and raisins dominate balanced by a very modest bitterness from the roasted malt and the 50 IBU's of bitterness contributed by the hops. The oak bourbon barrel overtones are quite noticeable and add in a very positive way to the aroma and taste of the beer. They are perfectly integrated into the nose, the taste, and the finish. The finish allows a little more of the hop bitterness to linger but there is a nice sustained carmel sweetness providing a perfect balance. The 9.8% ABV is well hidden, with the beer providing only mild alcohol heat. A very drinkable beer that is complex yet perfectly balanced. This may be one of my top ten favorites. This beer could be reasonably categorized as a barley wine rather than as a classic "Old Ale" such as Theakston's Old Peculiar.

From Labirratorium. In Teku glass. Playing 12 Labours of Hercules 4 + Little Big Adventure Enhanced. Very alcoholic in both nose and mouth, and the oak aging seems to make it feel even more alcoholic. Bbf Nov 2016. It has been hard to finish alex_leit (4050) - Minsk, BELARUS - JUN 13, 2017

355ml bottle [A big thanks to Maddie!]. Slightly cloudy, dark copper colour with average, sudsy, fairly lasting and lacing, sulphureous head. Oaky and malty aroma, notes of toffee, a touch of vanilla, old walnut. Taste is dry oaky, sweet-ish malty, slightly alcoholic, notes of toffee, walnut; warming alcoholic finish. Oily texture, soft palate. Not my cup of tee. Trolle (31) - - JUN 4, 2017
Temmelig sød øl med pæn gylden farve. Fyldig smag men mangler noget modspil til sødmen.

Draught at Moscow BCD’17. Deep bronze colour, small head. Aroma: oak wood, malts, dried fruit. Full body. Tart oak dominates the taste. Malty, fruity as well. Light to medium bitterness. Well-balanced. Another beautiful beer from Founders. SanfordBrewer (1574) - Sanford, Florida, USA - MAY 23, 2017
Ruby copper with dense persistent beige head. Creamy full body with moderately high carbonation.NordicV (2347) - Malmö, Sweden, SWEDEN - MAY 21, 2017
Aroma: rich sweet malt, vanilla toffee barrel character, dark fruit, faint silage.
Taste: charred wood, whiskey notes, vanilla oak, warm slightly fruity alcohol, toated grain, subtle spice notes like cinnamon and nutmeg.
Kopparfärgad öl med ljusbeige skum. Doften är söt med malt, karamell och kola samt även en del jäst. I smaken märks inte jästen och lakritstoner tillkommer. Metalchopz (3384) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 18, 2017
Enjoyed in Vermont. Pours a clean, dark amber colour with a frothy light-beige head, good retention and creamy lacing. Slightly sweet malty aromas with some dark fruits, caramel and light oak. The wood shows up more in the taste creating a nice balance with the caramel and the hints of vanilla. Alcohol nicely hidden. Not as rich as expected, but lots going on, well-blended.
