COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha’s used to create this monster. More IBU’s than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil. 112 IBUs

In accordance with national IPA day, I figured a Triple IPA would be a good way to celebrate. Pours a clear, deep, ruby-red with a half finger of tan head that leaves mild lacing. Cherry, mango, pineapple, licorice, raisins, and piney hops on the nose. Big mouthfeel on this bad boy. Boldly sweet up front, but then the bitterness takes over. Some alcohol begins to make an appearance on the tongue, but it still is hidden very well. While this is a big, slow sipper, but the beer flows down much smoother than it should at 12%. I can see why many see this as more of a barley wine, but I think Triple IPA is more appropriate. Stellar beer.

Bottle. 35,5cl. Pours deep red with a small, staying creamy off-white head. Aroma has lots of fat, resiny hops, caramel malts, strawberries, overripe grapefruit, vinious. Low carbonation fat oily and quite dry mouthfeel. Flavour has sweet doughy and caramelly malts, apricot, grapefruit, peach, resin. Very fat, warming and piney bitter finish. I like it m

Bottle. Ok, quite disappointed for what I was expecting. Tasted more carbonated than a shitty imperial red homebrew I tried to make. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Apr 2008 I got this in a trade with joe1510. Thanks Joe! This pours a clear amber red with a 1 finger head of foam.(vigorous pour) Plenty of lacing and so far, good head retention. The smell is hugely of citrus hops with a noticeable side order of sweet malt. The taste is a well balanced blend of grapefruit and orange citrus hops and caramel malt with maybe the malt having just the wee bit more presence, especially in the finish. Very thickish mouthfeel here bordering on syrupy. A few more sips in, (and yes the alcohol is quite warming during and after the swallow but we're talking 13%abv) the malt really asserts itself as it should in a well made example of the style. I've had some DIPAs that take it *too* far to the malty side and they were overly sweet and cloying and some that didn't have enough of a malt presence and were overly hoppy. This one finds a very happy medium and I thank Founders for that. Very deicious drop indeed!

35 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark amber with an off-white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma and flavour are pine, resin, and caramel - with a bitter finish. Sadly not particularly refined.
