I remember this beer being hophead perfection, and it did not quite live up to that. Its defining feature is its wonderful throat coating acidic bitterness. The piney hop burn just lingers forever. So if you are a for realz hophead, this has to be tried, peroid. It seems like every brewery uses the "must try for hophead" gimmick for whatever their dipa is, but this one is the real deal. If you always find yourself wishing the dipa your drinking had just a little more hops this will be your beer. With that said, despite how awesome this beer is going down the throat, at least this time it really didnt do much on the tongue. It had a nondescript hoppy flatness to it while in the mouth. Before I drank it, I was all set to give it my first perfect rating, but a perfect beer needs to be dynamic at all stages.

Bottle, 355 ml, courtesy of Max. Shared with him and rest of the crew. Pours dark orange to amber with off-white head. Caramel, malty, moderate hoppy, ripe citrus, pine. Bottle from Purvis Richmond at friend Brian’s place. Pours deep orange small white head. Aroma is pine resin, guava, burnt orange and some dank forest floor. Flavour is massive sweet malt with plenty of pine resin and burnt orange peel. Taste is quite sweet considering the huge hop bitterness. Palate is very silky and full. Not sure what defines the line between a triple IPA and a hyper-hopped barleywine, because I’d easily classify Devil Dancer as the latter in a blind tasting. That being said, it’s still a pretty delicious beer, big and malty as hell, thick streams of caramel and dark fruits backed up by a vicious citric/pine hop attack. Clingy, resinous finish retains the initial sweetness, but never grows cloy. Citrus pine nose doesn’t hint at the massive malt presence, and the pour comes out a dark red-brown with a modest head and tons o’ lace. Not hot despite the ABV. Good brew.

17/20 bit of a blockbuster. Huge taste, huge alcohol hit, big complexity. Also huge bitterness but that's masked by the big initial taste. A bit of a monster but bloody good. 12% abv

Bought from 啤酒阿姨 in Shanghai. Drank w Matt at home. Pours a ruby red-brown with a medium sudsy off-white head. Smells of flat sweet crystal malt; lots of fig, plum and candied fruit; thick and sharp and a bit spicy; toasty slightly nutty bread; booze; dry peppery resin. Taste is heavy herbal resin bitterness; sharp and sweet; boozy; dry finish. Body is quite thick, a bit sharp, moderately bitter. One year old bottle that tastes and smells musty. Lots of malt, resin and booze but a little sharp and thick and unbalanced.
