COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Big full bodied style but very well executed and never strays from an appropriate stylistic line. I’ve only had the core range from Founders but I get the sense the brewery knows how to make a modern beer AND respect tradition at the same time. Some bourbon and coke, as expected, and rich, but never stupid which is a good effort given the 8.5%. Not sure many Scotch Ales get over this number? Some fizz to finish which takes the edge off the sweetness.

3 finger beige head. Very dark brown coloured beer.

Aroma is alcohol drenched raisins, caramel, dates, slight pine and smoked charcuterie. Quite vinous too.

Taste is dates, soil, caramel, big whisky smokeyness, raisins and a slight metallic note at the back, that doesn't stop it from being good but rather hinders it from being better.

Mouthfeel is rich and a bit dry. Medium bitterness and lightly carbonated. Could definitely use more of a punch though, it feels too gentle, even though that adds to the pleasant smoothness this beer has.

Overall: Like I have previously mentioned, Founders can do no wrong. Or hasn't yet, in any case. This is not the most exciting beer I have had but it's simply a very pleasing beer to sip. You get a hint of the alcoholic smokeyness but any actual alcohol taste is barely there, which makes this very drinkable. I'm glad this is one of the regulars at the Swedish monopoly now, especially since winter is coming.

Amazing beer. Great rich and dark malty flavor. Medium to heavy body with a dark chocolate finish. Low carbonation. One of my favorite beers.

Scotch, figs and dates, sweet woody notes. Taste is sweet and slightly bitter, following the nose. Caramel, scotch, stale yellow grass. Somehow stale finish, lacking in this department.

Very well crafted American scotch ale. 355ml bottle pours very dark cola brown with foamy tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, brown sugar, molasses and whiskey. Very balanced flavours of dark cocoa, bourbon, oak, roast grains, caramel malt with hoppy undertones. Long finish with very mild espresso bitterness. Silky texture, big body and dark sophisticated flavour profile make this a sensational beer.
