Ruby in color as explained with a little forming head and little lacing. Good malt taste and not over powering smokiness. Good brew.
a great drink; malty complex flavor; full body, creamy, soft carbonation, medium sweetness, long finish Subliminal64 (222) - London, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 19, 2017
Where Purchased: 347ml bottle from Meijer in Michigan
Consumed: from a pilsner glass
Aroma: Smells malty and sweet with hoppy note.Seems complex.
Appearance : unfiltered dark gold brown with lots of head that disappears within the first few sips. No lacing, but lots of lively carbonation.
Taste: very sweet and malty with an underlying hop note. Would never guess the IBU was 50 or the ABV was 8.8. Impressive. Lots of complex tastes yet easy to drink.
Palate : full body. Slight bitter with sweet aftertaste. Great carbonation.
Overall: this was a complex beer. Lots of malts. Easy drinking, and would never know it was as boozy as it was. I was glad to try and will buy again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on.

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2017 ,3 litre Bottle from Total Wine Bocca Park. Brown with medium offwhite head. Roasted malt aroma and taste. hman43 (1772) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - NOV 11, 2017
It pours dark brown and it is fairly clear. It has a tan head with low head retention. A full malt aroma, complex and inviting. It has some caramel and moderate smoky elements. The are also low aromas of alcohol as well. There are flavors of caramel and nuts. There is a low roasted character to it with low smoke. There is moderate bitterness and a very low dried fruit (Plums) element. It has a moderately full body with some alcohol warmth. Overall, a complex malty beer that highlights malts with a bit of light smoke. A great drinking Wee Heavy.

This is one of Founders best and amongst all other Scotch Ales I feel it superior to most others. I have tried over fifteen scotch ales and this is the one I most frequently purchase when I want an excellent Scotch Ale that wont break the bank. Gorgosh (517) - SWEDEN - NOV 11, 2017
Bottle. Misty brown with ruby highlights. Moderate ivory-coloured well-lacing head. Aroma: malt symphony. Caramel, toffee, toast. Lots of nicely sourish fruit jam, dried fruit, some oak. Medium body. Moderately dry taste. Rich malts, again. Nuts, oak, fruits. Light bitterness. So good mikeyo1 (871) - Linköping, SWEDEN - NOV 2, 2017
Can @ home. Pours a Ruby to brown liquid with a creamy head. Sweet aroma with toffee, caramel, chocolate, licorice, mild smoke, red fruits. Smooth palate with average carbonation. Medium to full body. Taste of deep caramel, toffee, dark bread, licorice, smoke, chocolate, red fruits, some herbs. Lasting taste with an earthy and smoky finish. Lingering licorice. Balanced low to medium bitterness. hauxe (937) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - NOV 2, 2017
From the bottle. Dark brown with a tan, creamy head. Aroma is earthy with chocolate and Backhaus. Taste is sweet up front, full of chocolate, licorice, smoke and caramel. Finishes warm with a whisp of bitterness. Body is full, rich, creamy. Overall a complex, we’ll balanced brew that betrays absolutely no sign of it’s ABV. I‘m at a loss for words. Excellent!
