Had this on draft at founders tap room. Crazy foamy whipped cream like head. Crazy chocolate and coffee aroma. Sweet. Marshmallows. Wow. A desert Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - APR 21, 2011
On tap at the brewery -- December 29, 2010.
Pours a hazy dark brown color with a really hefty nitro-derived head with some really amazing retention time and quite a bit of lacing as it goes down. On the initial whiff of this I was already upset that it was on nitro and I wouldn’t be able to grab a growler. Strong notes of coffee and hazelnut. Wow. A bit of chocolate and roast there as well. Can’t get enough of the coffee and hazelnut, which headed straight into the taste, though that was a bit more roasty and similar to the base beer without the sweetness of the nose. The mouthfeel was really nice and smooth. Drinkability is through the roof. Hands down the best oatmeal stout I’ve ever had.

On tap at founders pub. Black with a nice frothy, nitro like tan head. aroma is sweet coffee and cream with hints of hazelnut and French vanilla. Taste is similar and is just like drinking a frap. Smooth and thin on the palate. Good andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 20, 2011
On tap as part of a sampler at Founders Brewery in Grand Rapids, MI. This one takes the cake for the best I sampled in my snow-trenched day. Appearance pure black with a rich tan creamy head. Aroma like hot chocolate, extremely decadent and creamy, quintessential dessert brew from the aroma perspective, possibly more decadent than Rogue Chocolate Stout. Taste is seriously like a Butterfinger beer. Tastes like a peanut butter candy bar (this is what I got from the hazelnut...like Ferraro Rocher in a glass), there’s not much in there on the hop end but its super creamy and overtly decadent. This is the best chocolate stout I’ve ever had. pauls_parade (340) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - FEB 19, 2011
Pours black with a tan-colored, nitro head. Huge hazelnut coffee aroma. Light in body, velvety smooth. Lightly sweet with chocolate malt and hazelnut and balanced by a roasted, dry finish. Hazelnut coffee and beer. Mmmm.

Pint at Founders. Black pour with a thick beige nitro head. Aroma of hazelnut, coffee, chocolate and cream. Creamy hazelnut flavor with chocolate and a roasty chocolate finish. Got to try lots of beers on this trip up north and many of them were pretty damn good, but this was the winner of the weekend. Truly amazing. Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - MAY 1, 2008
Draft at founders. Black STout with nutty frangelica nose. Nutty vanilla start and mild unsalted finish. Nicely done. Good. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 22, 2008
On tap at brewpub, Black Party 2008: Pour jet black with a fading frothy tan head and okay lace upon the glass, some oily legs as well. The aroma has notes of hazelnut, orange zest, chocolate, vanilla, espresso, charred malt, oatmeal, and some herbal hop. A very welcoming and relaxing nose indeed! The taste is a wonderful mix of sweet hazelnut and malt balanced by some coffee and hop bitterness. The finish does display some herbal notes and even a hint of smoke but what you get initially from this beer is what stays till the end. The mouth feel is very smooth and very drinkable, I almost finished the pint before writing my notes. This is not for everyone but if you can dig a nutty stout then you must try this... I did twice!
On nitro @ Founder’s. If you only sort of like hazelnut, you probably will not appreciate this beer. Very fragrant nose of roasted hazelnut and faint coffee and maybe a hint of vanilla. Tastes much like it smells, without tasting artificial. I really enjoyed it, but then again, I really like hazelnuts. AllAboutStout (605) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 17, 2008
On nitro draft at Founders. Pours a dark brown, near black on the pour. Very nice, inch big, cascading head. Smell is all hazelnut espresso and I love it. There’s even more in the taste. If you’re not into hazelnut, this maybe tough for you, but I’m totally digging it. Very smooth and creamy from the nitro tap. Perfect cold night beer.
