COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We took a crisp, light-bodied cherry ale and hid it away in oak barrels that have held both bourbon and maple syrup. After a lengthy stint, it emerged a changed beer, blanketed in notes of warm vanilla and earthy sweetness. The wood proves itself the star of this beer, adding depth and taming the tart cherry while the maple imposes a velvety texture that lingers for not a moment too long.

Pours a murky rusty golden with short, creamy, off white head. Sour notes with a defined wood quality on the nose. Drinks smoothly and well-blended. Full mouthfeel, almost thick. The sour fruit encounters the woodiness throughout. Sweet vanilla oakiness is how the beer finishes.

Tap at Harry’s, Jyväskylä. Pours ruby color. Flavor of cherry, bourbon, sweetness and syrup, malts, berry. Sweet taste, medium body, a bit alcohol as well, sweet aftertaste. Slightly tarty. Strange brew, but works surprisingly well. Nothing like what I’ve had before.

Sweetness grabbed my attention right away - lots of cherry, a little prune, and some brown sugar. A dash of citrus tang and a little brett round out the flavor profile. I didn’t pick up much of the bourbon, but a little maple syrup is present. Ridiculously drinkable - goes down like a craft soda - if you didn’t know what this was, you could be in some danger. Aroma is pretty mellow, with fresh bread and a little bourbon. It’s always great to spot a new release from Founders.

12 oz. bottle from Sterk @ home. Clear amber/red color. Light pink head with reasonable retention. Aroma’s: fruit and wood indeed, sweet cherries, vanilla cinnamon. Retronasal it’s sweet, syruppy, sweet cherries, woody, vanilla, also some apple sauce with cinnamon. Flavor is rather sweet, maple syrup, with fruity sourness and bourbon-vanilla. Above medium bodied. Alcohol is warming, but not sharp. Soft mouthfeel. Long finish with no new flavors. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I rather like it.
