12 oz pour on tap at the brewpub (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a rich glowing amber hue, sunfire bottom and edges with lively carbonation, a loose offwhite head atop that dies to a firm film, laces ok overall. Aromas are vibrant fruits and bitter hops, some sweeter pale malts and touches of biscuits, bread. A fairly fruit forward melon and citrusy front, tropical fruits enter the fold quickly. Initial is fruit forward up front, peach and tropical fruits mix with melon, grapefruit, and lemon. Healthy florals, grass, and pale malts. A gentle kiss of bread, mellow fruity sweetness grows. Fairly light and drinkable with that rich vibrant Galaxy hop showing ok overall. Middle is fairly mellow, dry and fruity, with the finish offering a clean bitter hop experience, a touch of body gives some counter, but overall this is a clean, well hopped, vibrant IPA. Nice and fairly fresh. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - OCT 3, 2011
On tap at Founders. Hazy straw-orange body, medium clumping cream head. Nose and body of bitter, citrusy tangerine rind, finishing with herbal tannic bitterness. Smooth, creamy body. Very similar to their other pale ales. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - SEP 26, 2011
tap at founders. what an awesome concept...clear amber with medium off-white head...aroma of big, fresh, grassy hops and some light malt in the finish. flavor is similar with the same bold galaxy hops, oats, and bitterness. truly captures the essence of their oatmeal stout, as the oats smooth out the finish..a cool friggen’ beer Strykzone (7430) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 17, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. This is clear with some red hue. Call it copper colored. A smallish offwhite head leaves no lacing. The nose is of a citrusy IPA. Nice. The flavor is big citrus with just a bit of caramel. It starts with a big citrus bite and then the oats smooth it out. It can almost be graphed as it starts out high falls and smooths. It is generally a classic American IPA but the smoothing by the oats is interesting.
