Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Snifter. Appearance: Pure black and opaque with dark brown head that leaves light lacing behind. By the way, I love the English-like crest on the label. Aroma: Burnt molasses, licorice, dark chocolate, roasted barley and nose-burning alcohol. Taste: Burnt molasses, heavily roasted barley, dark chocolate, licorice and strong coffee. Decent level of bitterness at the end, with a long roasted aftertaste. Slightly too much burnt molasses for my liking, but that is a minor gripe. Palate: Low carbonation, smooth body, exceedingly thick and creamy (almost as much as the Egg Nog I had earlier), dry finish. Overall: Another great beer from Founders, although not one of my favorites by them since so many of their beers are just exceptional. Not one of my absolute favorite RIS either (Yeti, Darkness, Storm King, Old Rasputin), but still very, very good.

A copletely black pouring beer with a neat dark brown frothy head. Quite a black beauty. A fine roasted nose with hints of tobacco and coffee combined with wooden notes. The mouthfeel is round and creamy on the fat site. A really glass slinger. The taste is huge with an overall bitter roastedness and a long lasting bitter sweetness that is there to the very end. Again there are some coffee and tobacco. This is a truely good imp. stout whit all what an imp. stout should be about. Thumps..and glasses up.

A: pours dark used oil black, visually syrupy. Thin dark brown head that is about a quarter inch thick that settled to decent halo S: great mix of vanilla, dark roasted malt, chocolate and a very light amount of coffee. T: dark roasted malt sweetness upfront, then chocolate, vanilla, and more of a coffee bitterness. A light amount of alcohol burn on the back end. M: very thick and syrupy, coating, very low carbonation. O: oddly this bottle is the first time Ive seen this available locally, it is a great beer, and only wish it was more available

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2012 Aroma is intensely rich and roasty. Very smooth creamy mouthfeel. Taste is an amazing roasty nutty stout with well hidden alcohol. Really is a nice traditional imp stout without the cloying dark fruit sweetness that some imperials have. Great Job.

Pours a pitch black beer with a dark chocolate head. The aroma is malt, chocolate, dried fruit, soya and ash. The flavor follows the nose with additional alcohol. The palate is dry. Overall a really good beer.
