Hot damn! My oh my what a beer. Definitely enjoy this brew a little under room temperature, it takes it awhile to open up if its in the fridge for too long. This is an aroma that bursts out of the bottle right after opening. The nose has a huge punch of anise followed up by some bourbon notes and dark dried fruit. Pours an absolute jet black that light doesn’t go through with a thoroughly unique dark brown, hair thin head. The taste is a typical stout but is wonderfully balanced without an alcohol bite and a nice melange of licorice, coffee, cream and bourbon flavors. An absolutely wonderful beer especially on a below-freezing night in the capital of Indiana. Cheers!

Piwo ma oleistą konsystencję, nalewa się z intensywną brązową pianą. Aromat intensywny, słodowy z narzucająca się nutą popiołową. Melasa, nuty porto i gorzka czekolada. W smaku pełne, gęste i słodkie. Czekolada i nuty popiołowe są na pierwszym planie, następnie melasa i nuty porto. Goryczka jest średniej wysokości, kakaowa w posmaku. Alkohol dobre ukryty, lekko rozgrzewa gardło.

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4, many thanks! Pours black with a dark brown and really big head, rarely seen such a color for a foam before! Very stable, too. Aroma is chocolate, dark dried fruit, plum, coffee, some caramel. Body is heavy and sweet, yet not overpowered, and with a punchy bitterness to balance things out. Smooth carbonation and texture, velvety. Also a bit boozy, but it fits. More on the fruit side on tongue and palate. Slightly spicy, has a Winter feel to it. Very good!

Aus der Flasche im 2017-08 getrunken. Neben den typischen IS Aromen kommen hier dunkle Beeren und eine leichte Haselnußnote dazu. Lecker!

355ml brown bottle poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is opaque brownish black with a medium sized creamy brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, maple syrup, rye-sourdough bread, vanilla, spices, orange and toffee. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied, creamy texture and soft carbonaiton. Founders Imperial Stout is liquid candy, delicious and very sweet. Sweet stouts like this I would really like to see offered in smaller bottles.

355 ml bottle bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Looks: Opaque deep brownish black colour; Less than one-quarter finger head with residual soapy dark beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with no carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant dark malt, with very strong roastyness, strong dark chocolate / cocoa powder, strong caramel, strong sticky toffee, red fruits, cream, alcohol, floral, strong molasses, spices, earth, biscuits, light lemon and grass. Rich as hell!

Taste: Mid to strong sweet rich dark malt, with very strong roastyness, nuts, burnt toast, strong caramel, toffee, strong black coffee, strong dark chocolate, alcohol, liquorices, floral, strong molasses, strong spices, earth, herbs, biscuits, lemon, strong bitter hops and sharp grass.

Body: Full body. Oily palate.

Mouth Feel: Rich dark maltyness in a thick and very slick background. Loads of roastyness from start to finish. Good burnt toast pairs with caramel and toffee, combined with tasty strong black coffee and dark chocolate. Flowery with strong sweetness, spicy earthy biscuit with herbal lemon to round. Very fulfilling!

Alcohol: the 10.5% booze is notable but not too domineering, with liquorices contributed some of the bitterness. Quite easily for a RIS. Not bad!

Hoppiness: Floral, spices, earth, light lemon and grass in nose. Floral, strong spices, earth, herbs, lemon and sharp grass in taste; Bitterness - burnt malt, liquorices and hops - is strong for a lasting, high astringent sweet-bitter roast malty finish.

After Taste: Fairly Dry. Herbal spicy and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: This pure RIS is damn rich in hot chocolate araoma, nice burnt toast roasty malty taste, not too boozy, with a nice herbal hoppy finish. It doen?y need any barrel aging and it?s impressively dark and lovable. Highly recommended!
