A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, youre about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Poured from Dec2012 bottle into snifter a jet black with I nice two finger mocha head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate. Mouthfeel is a medium carbonation and fairly viscous. Taste of burnt malts, coffee, oaky. Nice finish that warms the soul on this frigid Chicago evening.

10.5%ABV. Imperial stout Poured out black with a nice thick creamy cafe-au-lait colored head. Nose has alcohol, coffee, chinese medicine and liniment. Caramel, burnt sugar. Mouthfeel is creamy with thick syrupy and almost chewy being adequate descriptors, overall like drinking melted ice cream. Palate is thickly alcoholic with a medicinal flavor profile that suggests chinese medicine, with charcoal this lasts for most of the palate. The tail end has some date jam, black honey, marzipan, pistachio. There is also a very nice mouthfeel of drinking really thick milk coffee, like a Thai iced coffee or a cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee). Finish is a little sticky but overall very satisfying. Overall, a hefty, hefty ale with a mountainous grain bill, bucket loads of alcohol, and a pleasantly complicated flavor profile suggesting chinese medicine, dark fruit, charcoal and treacle with a hint of spice with cinnamon and anise. All this covered in soothing silky smooth blue velvet sack. You dont really realize it till the golden cord is sinched tight around your neck! Goes on Favorites List! Bottle. Black viscous pour with very dark chocolatey head, sticky lacing. Oatmeal and anise aroma, dark chocolate. Rich bitter flavour, charred malts, plum and prune. Thick smooth feel carried by constant tiny carb fizz. No discernible booze warmth, flavour falls away a bit in the back half. Rich and tasty, just lacks the wow of KBS or BS.

Stored for some time, "best before date" was about a year ago. But what a Stout it has become! A wonderful aroma, look astonishing with its dark brown head. And the taste, so smooth and rich. Im glad that I have one more stored away (same batch).

Bottle from Boise Co-op. Silky black pour, minimal head, but skin lasts. Big, full roast grain aroma, coffee, cocoa. Taste adds more of the chocolate, and ramps up the bitterness. Smooth, yet has a nice bite. Velvety texture. Dark and roasty.

A 355ml bottle, bottled on 30th November 2016. Poured into a snifter. It was black in colour with a nice one finger fluffy brown head that dissipated fairly quickly but left spotty lacing. Aromas were roasty, chocolate, cherry and a hint of coffee. Tastes of roasty malts, rich bittersweet chocolate and coffee with hints of dark fruit balanced with some bitterness. Finish has a lasting ashy charcoal-ness. Smooth, velvety and full bodied with low carbonation. Overall nice and smooth. A good Russian Imperial Stout.
