A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

0.33 l bottle bought by Marin & Toni at Edinburgh. Shared with Vinja 666 and Goran. Huge thanks guys for bringing this and Vinja 666 for sharing! Hoppy birthday! Completely black, brown small lasting head. Highly aromatic, ground pepper, very spicy, very heavy on the barrel, alcohol. Dry, alcoholic, aromatic. Full body, silky texture, extremely aromatic finish. I understand why people go mad about this one.

(2015) Pours pitch black with a light brown head dissipating quickly. Aroma of bourbon, roasted malts, coffee beans, dark chocolate and some dark fruits. Flavour is just the same, and some vanilla and a nice oaky note as well, given by the barrel aging. I was expecting a little bit more from it, considering the hype. Maybe the worst year? Cant wait to try the 2016 thats in my cellar, hoping to taste something better.

2015 BJCP Category: 33B Specialty Wood-Aged Beer (base style: 20C Imperial Stout)

AROMA: French roast coffee; chocolate syrup; black grape; vanilla; bourbon; wood. General dark malts; no specific hop character; no hot or distracting alcohol character. 12/12

APPEARANCE: Opaque black body; dark tan head retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Strong, but gentle wave of sweetness envelopes palate immediately. Chocolate is the most prominent flavor. At the apex there is some dry bitterness to impart a modicum of balance. Sweetness changes to vanilla, wood and bourbon. Coffee emerges as it finishes and offers additional bitterness. A slight tartness and taste of currant or black grape appears briefly in the aftertaste. Alcohol is a major component of the palette, but is smooth with a gentle warming. Overall, an amazing balance of 33B, 30A and 20C styles. 20/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full bodied; medium carbonation. Texture is soft, smooth, velvety and warm. No sticky or cloying sensation. For 12.4% ABV, this is not a gentle sipper. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: This is an amazing, delicious and commendable beer to say the least. A remarkable achievement in brewing history. Simply put: its a perfect beer. 10/10

Founders KBS, short for Kentucky Breakfast Stout, is indeed suitable for breakfast -- particularly on this Christmas morning. at 11.2 percent, its a nice jump-start on the holiday unwrapping. Poured from a growler purchased from the Beer Camp in Plattsburgh, New York, KBS is opaque. Pitch black! Theres minimal carbonation and Belgian lacing, yet theres a dark, slick residue coats the inside of the glass. The aroma is dark chocolate, earth and booze. The taste is dark chocolate, burnt cacao nibs, vanilla beans, toasted coconut, followed by a slight hop bitterness to balance out the sweetness without cloying. The bourbon smoked woodiness lingers along with a boozy warmness. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth. KBS, the breakfast of champions!

Bottle from Peter, thanks a lot pal!
2016 vintage. Pours thick and black with a small espresso coloured head. Aroma is slightly vinous at first, with raisins, loads of roasted malt, chocolate and bourbon. Surprisingly enough, theres pretty much no alcohol at all in the aroma Very roasted taste with peppery, strong bourbon notes, loads of dark chocolate, espresso vanilla, espresso, slight alcohol, slight burnt/smokey. Full body, high but soft carbonation, thick and round mouth feel. Slightly peppery and bitter aftertaste with dark chocolate.

Niiice! I havent had a BBA Imperial Stout for some time now and this really hit the spot. Quite well balanced, though heavy on the roasted malt and dark chocolate.
