4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Finally got a chance to taste this once and a lifetime brew. It was everything an imperial stout was that the Pliny elder was to the IPA.

From bottle, 11.9%. Coffee, licorice, slightly caramel aroma. Opaque, black, frothy. Medium bitterness. Full body, slick feel, soft carbonation, bitter finish. I much preferred the none coffee version. damzz (528) - Massachusetts, USA - JAN 7, 2018
2016 Vintage: Pours a deep dark black with no 50 shades of gray with a dark beige head leaving lacing. The nose is chocolate and coffee - really ;>). Surprisingly, it is full bodied /sarc. Taste is chocolate coffee or coffee chocolate including a bourbon under structure in nose and taste. This stout is a demonstration of "where no stout has gone before". (Okay, I'm watching "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan". Perhaps if Khan was left with the recipe for this stout in the replicator, he would have been less revengeful.) Gave it 4.9 because no one knows what perfection is in beer or anything else humans create. 12 oz bottle marekb (2) - - JAN 7, 2018 does not count

Mørk med veldig lite skum. Nydelig aroma vanilje og kaffe. Smaker lett sjokoladebittert, med vennlige hint av kaffe og vanilje. Eik og whiskey. Medium/tykk konsistens. En godbit. anfractuosity (491) - - JAN 4, 2018

.Appearance: Pitch black, tight creamy one finger head - quickly dropping down. Lots of lacing.
.Aroma: Big bourbon booziness, roasted malt, charred bourbon barrel. Notes of soft chocolate, cherries, vanilla bean, burnt caramel, oak, a slight earthiness, and a subtle scent of roasted coffee. Smells delicious.
.Taste: Sweet bourbon comes through in a big way upfront, balanced and ultimately finished with a delicious roasted bitterness. As the beer warms - notes of dark fruit, spice, coffee, milk chocolate, and vanilla bean make their presence known. Beautifully complex tasting beer.
.Mouthfeel: Medium to full body, very rich, very creamy - with a subtle carbonation. Aside from the ever present barrel aged bourbon aromas and flavor, the alcohol is actually well hidden, making this beer dangerously easy to drink considering the ABV. Excellent feel.
.Bottom Line: This is my first experience with KBS and I am fully aware of the hype that surrounds it. With that in consideration I made a conscious effort to evaluate this beer properly. With an unbiased stance, KBS became an instant stand out in my mind. A beautifully, fantastic aroma gives way to a deliciously complex flavor. It seems to me people are trying to nitpick simply because of the success this beer has had over the years (and perhaps the price tag), which is fair, but I myself could hardly find anything to complain about. Top notch. visnja666v (13) - - DEC 26, 2017
Čokolada, kava, burbon vanilija, puno tijelo, sjajan balans. orbit (329) - Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - DEC 23, 2017
Awfully good stout! Bombrich in flavour and the barrel aged taste is subtly intertwined in the final bouquet, absolute musthave for the stoutlovers of this earth. Blastomorpha (150) - - DEC 23, 2017
Pours dark brown, almost black, with very thin reddish-cappuccino head.
Unfortunatly I got a bottle that was a month beyond the BB date already (the risk on online shopping... ), and this most probably affected the aroma, in which the coffee is surely there, but not as strong as expected. On the other hand, I can get a smoky flavour, like habanero.
Very nice as the same flavour I got drinking, plus a much more evident coffee roastiness, plus dark chocolate and some alcohol to warm. Sweet and bitter are balanced perfectly.
Very low carbonation, full body and oily, everything packed with a nice alcoholic kick.
A great sipper which I can't wait to taste again fresh! polishonion (30) - - DEC 22, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2017 My treacherous faces-Poured black as the darkest of nights... high viscocity with a loose initial mocha/caramel head that receded to a swirly dusting. Aroma as if they bottled up a small slice of heaven (albeit a bit of backwoods heaven with banjos, few teeth, and perhaps a bog)... rich, deeply roasted dark chocolate and Sumatra blend, caramel, molasses, and a perfectly complimentary aire from the barrel treatment (luscious vanilla, oak, and sweet bourbon overtones). All elements are expertly-blended, with nothing stealing the show. Flavors began with strong roasted dark malts (same coffee and chocolate as above... coffee with slightly more prominence)... with the barrel elements emerging somewhere in the middle. Vanilla and bourbon sweetness were well-balanced against the dark, roasty malts and coffee bitterness. Rather heavily-bodied, yet it managed to maintain its smoothness and flow. Coffee bitterness remained long after this masterpiece was consumed... along with feelings of warmth and satisfaction. Just tremendous in all regards! My cat tasted good!
