COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

FROM NOTES: November 29, ’13 on draft into a snifter at the Black Friday event @ Kraftrwork, Philly. A: Big nose full of roasty malts, subtle vanilla dark chocolate notes, roasted coffee and bourbon (booze). A: Blackest of night with the tannest of tan heads of about a finger and a half thick. VERY SEXY! T: Dark chocolate notes initially that give way to some espresso/coffee notes with the bourbon becoming more evident in the finish. Aftertaste has a balance between the bourbon and the coffee flavors with the bourbon dominating more as it warms. P: Creamy, chewy and silky with a nice low carbonation. Surprisingly very smooth for a beer that is 11.2%! O: Outstanding beer. WORLD CLASS! Very complex. Coffee, chocolate, and bourbon are the primary flavors, as advertised to be. VERY, VERY RARELY does a beer truly live up to the hype, this is that rare example.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2017 Tap at bulldog ne. Cola black with tan creamy head. Sweet boozy nose. Sweet, rich, chocolate, boozy peat. Very complex. Some spiciness. Sweet lots of layers. Full creamy body. Big and well thought out.

Bottle says 11.9 ABV. Smell of oak, coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, bourbon. Very dark brown colour, dark brown head. Aroma of vanilla, coffee, tar, licorice, bourbon. Bitter with alcool sweetness. Soft, plentiful carbon. Awesome stuff.

I never thought I’d see the day when I’d get an 11% impy on keg in Wycombe! Times they have a-changed indeed. Drank it in the Mad Squirrel during tempestuous weather, with lightning stabbing the rooftops and torrents of water cascading down the street outside. Most impy stouts make me think of a nightcap in a comfy armchair by an open fire; this one smelt boozy enough to light the fire with and make you feel comfy anywhere (which is just as well, because the Squirrel regrettably has neither armchairs nor open fire). To put it in a more RB-review style, it’s got a huge aroma of coffee and bourbon. Once I’d stopped inhaling the fumes, I got a look at this beast. It’s black and viscous with a middling tan head. Easing the first sip past my lips I was immediately struck by the really full, rich and smooth mouthfeel. It tastes of coffee liqueur, obvious alcohol, muscovado sugar, chocolate, vanilla and some roasty notes. A sumptuous treat of a beer that sustained me through the long swim to the bus station.

AROMAT : Intensywny. Przyjemna beczka (drewno, wanilia, kokos), trochę z tyłu alkohol, kawa oraz nuta warzyw strączkowych (groch, fasola).
SMAK : Bourbon, kawa, alkohol, gorzka czekolada. Posmak kawowo-Bourbon/owy (alkoholowy). Alkohol słabo ukryty. Brakuje mi "ciała" (gęstości / oleistości).
WYGLĄD : Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzyste. Piana drobna, bardzo niska.
OGÓLNIE : Nieułożony alkohol, a raczej słabo ukryty to największy zarzut jaki mam do tego piwa. Leżakowanie może odrobinę by pomogło. TOP50 wśród RIS’ów na Świecie? Wątpię. Beczka po Bourbon’ie to nie wszystko.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (33B/30A/20C). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unknown (BBF 30.11.17). AROMA: medium and well balanced notes of chocolate, slight coffee, dried grapes and prunes. faint vanilla. vinous background complements the aroma. APPEARANCE: almost black in color and opaque. Brown creamy medium head with good retention. leg formation. TASTE: medium-high chocolate note that evolves into a medium-low coffee and roasted malt character. initial low bourbon note. médium bitterness with a semi-dry and roasted finish. PALATE: full body with a velvety texture. médium carbonation. smooth alcohol warming. OVERALL: a very good flavored imperial stout more balanced on the aroma than the flavor.

The standard breakfast stout is one of my faves, but this one just amps it up. Bourbon flavours early, then the big chocolate/coffee hit. Maple, vanilla, brown sugar all over the place. Smooth, and incredibly easy to drink for how big it is. Thick and black, dark brown head fades quickly. My new top beer?
