COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Fresh ’07 bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown - almost black and a little oily. A light brown head foams up about a half-inch, but diminishes quickly. Some of it clings to the glass and provides a nice lacing effect, though - something I find in most Founder’s beers. Similar to the regular breakfast stout in aroma with big chocolate malts and dark roasted coffee at the forefront with a faint smokieness of wood and bourbon in the background. Huge coffee flavor still dominates, but is smoothed out and creamier with hints of vanilla. Extremely balanced, smooth and slightly chewy on the palate with just moderate amounts of carbonation. The bourbon really makes more of a presence as the beer warms, but it still maintains its incredible balance and smoothness. Very, very drinkable and some of the coffee bitterness has mellowed. I really like what the wood did for this one. Definitely a beer that lives up to its reputation. I’m glad I have more and some in the cellar from last year’s batch.

Black with almost no head. Aroma is chocolate vanilla cocoa hints of creme brulee. Sweet and soothing. Taste is quite dry with lots of coffee and very dark chocolate, some umami as well. Hints of green peppers. Almost no sweetness. Drinkable. Very soothing. Medium smooth. A bit spicyness. Dry finish with an echo of vanilla and peppers. Heavy and full bodied yet not at all phenolic. 9/5/8/4/16

Sam początek to kawa, potem beczkowe aromaty. Również ogromna mleczna czekolada. W smaku rozpuszczony aromat dobrego Burbonu. Świetnie to gra razem. Może troszkę za dużo kawy jak dla mnie.

Noir divine, noir invitante, noir sublime...

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2017 12oz bottle picked up at Stirchley Wines & Spirits, Birmingham in 2015, cellared and poured into a snifter on 8-Oct-2017. KBC2015, but a little past it's BBE date. Dark brown, almost black in colour with no noticeable head. Aroma of cocao nibs, malt and coffee. Full body and soft carbonation. Taste of chocolate - slightly bitter, boozy and creamy. Light hop profile and some spices. I hoped for more - probably stored for a little too long.

Ładnie się prezentuje czarnobrunatny kolor, nieprzezroczyste piwo, niezła ciemno beżowa piana. Aromat kawy, gorzkiej czekolady i wanilii. W smaku początkowo dominuje kawa, występują akcenty palonego słodu, potem do głosu dochodzi wanilia i inne akcenty beczki. Dobry balans pomiędzy umiarkowana słodyczą a goryczką. Super imperial stout.
